West Bay woman charged by anti-corruption cops
(CNS) A 53-year-old Caymanian woman has been charged with corruption and money laundering but officials have not given any details of her alleged crime. A spokesperson for the Anti-Corruption Commission said the unnamed woman was charged Monday 2 February by the RCIPS Anti-Corruption Unit with fraud on government, plus two counts of money laundering of US$30,000 and US$25,000.
The woman is scheduled to appear in Summary Court tomorrow but no other details have been released by officials. CNS understands, however, that the charges may be related to the crown’s case against Canover Watson in connection with a hospital contract for a card payment system. Watson, who was formerly the chair of the Health Services Authority Board, was charged with corruption offences last year and is scheduled to have a case dismissal hearing this week.
