Local silk appointed as acting Grand Court judge
(CNS): Ben Tonner KC has been appointed as an acting judge of the Grand Court and will serve from 5 August to 30 August during the newly introduced Long Vacation between the summer sitting and the winter sitting. Governor Jane Owen made the appointment on the advice of the Judicial and Legal Services Commission.
WORC arrests 16 for working illegally
(CNS): After a series of raids by law enforcement officers at construction and landscaping sites this month, 16 people were arrested for immigration offences: eleven for working outside the terms of their permits, four for working without permits and one man was found to have been overstaying in the Cayman Islands for ten years.

US men jailed for 1½ years for credit-card fraud
CNS: Three American men, Dave Obaseki, Michael Capers and Sean Luke, who recently pleaded guilty to using stolen credit card details to fraudulently purchase 73 items on Grand Cayman have each been sentenced to 18 months in jail. The affected businesses have either had seized items returned or compensation orders granted, the RCIPS said.

ODPP has filed appeal in Bush assault case
(CNS): Director of Public Prosecutions Simon Davis has confirmed that his office filed an appeal in April after the court stopped the trial against McKeeva Bush, who was facing allegations of indecent and common assault. However, the trial judge, Justice Stanley John, ordered a stay of the proceedings on 29 February.
