(CNS): Customers in parts of West Bay, George Town and Bodden Town were without power for over an hour in some cases Tuesday morning as a result of what Caribbean Utilities Company (CUC) described as “a temporary loss of generation”. Power was restored to all customers by around 10:35am, the monopoly power provider on Grand Cayman stated in a short release about the outage.

The first customers lost power in West Bay at around 9:18am and then outages in the capital and Bodden Town followed.

“CUC regrets the inconvenience caused to customers affected by this outage,” a spokesperson stated.

They can’t keep up with the generation demand but yet they are fighting against solar and other alternatives. Cha!

It is true that CUC can not keep up with the electricity demand and are fighting against solar energy. The government needs to apply pressure on them and force them to back off and let people do as they please with regards to alternative energy. Will the government stand up to them? I doubt that.

I think it is helpful that we get these updates every day as I was concerned for some of my West Bay employees when they didn’t show up for work on time. It is very unusual when this happens and the reporting provides a “doctor’s note” for them. Thanks for the update, keep up the good work.

Another helpful press release from CUC. What was it last time: “A spurious fault”? And the time before: “Equipment failure”. And the time before: “A transmission interruption”?

Are the staff in their PR department competing to provide the least helpful truism on each of the (frequent) occasions we lose power?

Tired of all these outages, third time in a month.
