Dump gets over $575k of new kit

(CNS): Government has spent more than half a million dollars on new equipment for the Department of Environmental Health to use at the George Town landfill as it tries to get to grips with the growing dump against the long process of introducing a national waste solution. DEH Director Roydell Carter said the two new excavators would improve the management of support services at the landfill. They will be used to manage scrap metals and used tyres, load materials and assist with processing wood waste, as well as assist in responding to emergency needs at the landfill, he said.
The equipment includes a JS370 tracked Excavator, which cost $309,042.83, and a JS200 wheeled Excavator, which cost $266,708.21. The machinery was handed over to Carter Wednesday by the Department of Vehicle and Equipment Services (DVES), which procured the excavators on behalf of the DEH.
DVES and DEH staff members have already been trained on the equipment, so they can be put into use this week, officials said.
Meanwhile, as government continues to invest in new equipment to manage the garbage that is still going straight into the landfill, government has plans to roll out a much more extensive recycling programme in the New Year as well as a composting initiative.
The public consultation on the proposed National Solid Waste Management Strategy ended last week and the next step will be the publication of the outline business case. However, the end solution is still some four years away.

Seems like the DVES failed to strike a great deal again, the MRRP on those machines from JCB UK is £158k (£190k inc VAT) and £142k (£170k inc VAT) . Dealer price most likely less than that. Doubt they came from UK so bought in US so can’t find the list price but shipping would be way less. They paid the equivalent of £250k and £215k . Doesn’t seem a bargain to my untrained eye….

There is factual information in the post by anonymous (6/12/15 at 2:53pm) and incorrect information. The MRRP values listed by anonymous are correct. However, the MRRP values are for each ‘standard’ specification machine with those specifications noted on the JCB UK website. This price does not account for any optional extras that were stipulated in the CI Government tender documents, nor does it account for certain enhancements to the standard machine for use in the severe environment of a landfill.
Enhancements to the standard specification on the JS370 included a 48″ bucket, 5 tine grapple, hydraulic quick attach mechanism, additional particulate filtering for engine and a/c for severe environments, additional engine and oil cooling for severe environments, operator cab impact protection cage, among others.
Enhancements to the standard specification on the JS200W included a high-rise cab, 36″ bucket, pick and sort grapple, manual quick attach mechanism, additional particulate filtering for engine and a/c for severe environments, additional engine and oil cooling for severe environments, operator cab impact protection cage, among others.
These two units were tendered as part of a public tendering process lead by DVES earlier in 2015, with two machines in the package being awarded to Massive Equipment Rental and Sales Ltd, an 18 year old Caymanian owned company. In early 2015 Massive was awarded the JCB dealership for the Cayman Islands and has upgraded training and facilities to support the brand locally. In addition to the two machines in this article we have been successful in selling additional equipment to other entities. We have also been of assistance to the owners of existing JCB equipment on island with local stock of key wear items and lubricants, prompt parts quotes and orders, and pricing that equals or beats any item bought from a JCB dealer in USA and self-imported.
These two units were built to the tendered specification at the JCB Heavy Products division factory in Uttoxeter, UK. Both were shipped from Southampton, UK. The JS370 due to size was shipped as rolling stock by specialist auto carrier vessel to Miami. The JS200W was shipped on a 40′ flatrack.
In support of the integration of this equipment Massive has provided hands-on and classroom training to 15+ staff at DVES and DEH delivered via a product support manager in from Panama, the Caribbean Sales Manager in from Barbados, and a JCB operator specialist in from the HQ in UK. Both machines come with the standard JCB one year warranty which covers severe duty. Both will be further covered by an extended warranty that will cover all scheduled service intervals and warranty repair out to four years. Both units include a subscription to LiveLink, a service that allows us, and the customer, to view real time data on a range of parameters, including approaching service intervals, fuel economy, engine performance statistics per minute, all with email alerts for outside of range issues. The machine can also be ring-fenced to a specific geolocation to allow management to review its efficient and effective use over time.
We think the government made a great deal when they awarded this package of equipment to Massive Equipment / JCB. This equipment is top quality and as JCB dealer we have a responsibility to correct the errors presented in the anonymous post of 6/12/15 at 2:53pm.

The equipment will be under the dealers warranty for a few years. Believe me, they will need it, probably the worst place to operate heavy equipment from a wear and tear perspective.
8:13 Dealer’s warranties are always conditional on a bunch of things like proper maintenance, daily pre-use checks and operating the equipment within established safety criteria. If they treat (abuse might be a better word!) this lot like all the previous equipment CIG has bought for the dump they’ll void all the warranties in a month.
What you people and your experts fail to realize is the dynamics of garbage and recycling change on a monthly basis not some dreamed up 4 year plan by people that sit in offices and make up reports ….GFY TIM

Good one! I heard that the previous tub grinder was trashed by an excavator operator while its paint was still fresh. No wonder they brought in a trainer from JCB this time.
I can just hope this equipment will complement the new WMF in Bodden Town when it happens, after PPM loses the election 2017
