Police chopper crashes after aborted take-off
(CNS): The RCIPS helicopter is out of service after it crashed Tuesday afternoon as it attempted to take off from Owen Roberts International Airport. A police spokesperson said that the tail of the chopper was damaged after it hit the ground during a “sudden aborted take-off”. No one was injured during the landing, which happened around 4:30pm. In a short release about the incident, the RCIPS said that “the helicopter suffered an uncontrolled command failure while lifting off” for what would have been a routine deployment.
The sudden aborted take-off caused the tail of the helicopter to strike the ground, causing damage. The Cayman Islands Airport Authority was immediately informed, police stated, and attended the scene of the crash, along with all the relevant emergency services.

Too bad. Progress in EE is now defeated. Days before and until the crash, the helicopter was very active in EE…
The problems everything unnah bring here is crap and that’s why you all never leave because you use it as an excuse and reason to remain here. Well we sick and tired both!
Was it buju
Name of pilot of the flight?
How many millions of Government money to fix?
These so called gifts cost so much to maintain Cayman needs to stop buying used junk! So sad mother only letās buy from her.
They crashed, it didnāt break. Remove head from sphincter then speak.
It’s so sad we only have one system in place when such incidents occur we should always have a back plan. Why is it we keep buying junk from certain special interest control by those who rule us at premium prices.i understand our govt is trying to set up radar now but that too is mired down understand in political meddling and favoritism and nepotism and serious conflicts of interest. I really hope we don’t buy more junk which cost more to maintain like our grand camera scam we currently have. stop buying used junk from mama Cayman.
Nonsense!
The RCIPs helicopter is a NEW Airbus H145, who told you it was used and a junk piece of equipment? This “used junk” has saved countless lived and has aided in the capture of several runaway drivers. Also, if you’re referring to the helicopter we bought from a military base in the UK then I can assure you they are in no way junk as maintenance is high priority when it comes to military aircraft.
You have a concern for the RCIPs not having a backup helicopter all while complaining we don’t buy more equipment to spend more on maintenance. Which one do you want?!
Goodness how misinformed are?
I am sure alot of people who died DWI didn’t choose to die in a car accident.
Iron Ching-Ching to da world.
Bullet.
Will come in handy when they start the Fān war.
I am against abortion. This helicopter is an abomination against God and the Constitution.
First serious incident since it went into RCIPS service – for a helicopter that age being operated in this climate it’s a pretty impressive record.
Uncontrolled command failure, sounds a lot like operator error. When you’re paying highly-trained pilots to give the machine its commands you shouldn’t have any of these. Esp dangerous/expensive while still in ground effect.
Which part of UNCONTROLLED do you not understand???? Maybe it should read uncontrollable
In no aircraft operator report has an uncontrolled command failure been attributed to pilot error. Not sure how much things you’ve got missing up there, but this sounds like an issue stemming from mechanical degredation.
You total moron. The pilot feeds his command to the aircraft, but if for some technical reason the aircraft fails to respond how is that the operators error?
As usual, the typical ignorant comments…
āUncontrolled command failure while lifting offā, rules pilot error out or not?
The pilot deserves rather credit for using his training to deal with the emergency situation
in split seconds. Glad no one was hurt. It would be nice if the public will get an update
on why this situation occured, technical/weather related etc.
Technical.
Here, here! The expertise of the pilot probably saved the lives of everyone on board and anyone in its locality. Instead of making ignorant comments about ‘operator error’, try looking through your blinkered, uneducated view of the world and realise that an entire crew, have walked away from a potential catastrophe that could have taken many lives.
I hope the ignorance demonstrated on this page isn’t replicated by those in power, and the pilot and crew are formally recognised for their bravery and skill under extreme duress.
So is wasn’t a crash.
Wasn’t a successful flight either.
So glad it wasn’t over my house when it fell from the sky.
It didnāt fall from the sky. Do you even read or just decide to be a know it all?
6 other idiots also canāt read.
I hope the occupants of the helicopter are all safe and well; speedy repair and deployment of this valuable RCIPS asset.
Who was the Pilot in command? CNS please find out! I’m sure that information will shed light on why it happened.
Immediately jumping to the conclusion that it was pilot error and wanting to point the finger at someone. Be happy that no-one was injured and that the failure happened on take off rather than midflight.
Whatās wrong with someone ccepting blame, if it is there?
What a place, Cayman has become.
A perfect no-blame society.
be careful with that, it doesnāt matter who the Pilot in command was. No aviator is above the next, the risk one is exposed to isnāt bias, discriminating or prejudice.
Who do you think Sherlock? All would be lost if it was you.
Did the Brac fireman that crashed the fire truck get prpmoted as a helicopter Pilot?
Dumb…and learn to spell.
Wheelie time!
the police farce up to their usual tricks…
uh-oh spaghetti-o’s…
now the drugs going pile in…hope not as rcip has been doing an excellent job of catching them….?
Legalize cannabis like USA / Canada and we wouldn’t have such a flourishing black market to fulfill the demand!
Tax revenue, massive tourism opportunities, employment opportunities, less strain on RCIPS, less people in court and northward over a plant ..
Na, makes way too much sense for the fossils we have elected here in Cayman
They can keep the coke, guns and immigrants, but let me legally put a cannabis seed in some soil and grow a natural plant! Legalize the medical herb
Genesis 1:29:
And God said, Behold, I have given you every HERB BEARING SEED, which is upon the face of all the earth.. !!
Legalize it all and take the money and power away from the thugs. Use money to treat addiction not criminalize it.
Amen.. My drunk cousin hit his wife. My stoned cousin ate all of my doritos.
Ask me which family member I prefer to be around.
Don’t blame your cousin being a woman beater on the alcohol or being drunk
Being drunk doesn’t force people to suddenly do things they would never otherwise do
It just makes them do the things they want to do but don’t
By that logic, everyone that drinks alcohol secretly wants to run their car into a light pole but too scared to do it sober.
That’s an incorrect assumption. The reason they hit the light pole is due to lack of motor control caused by the alcohol and not due to wanting to hit it.
In Cayman it’s moving light poles that jump in the way.
10.42am Only if it’s a Caymanian driver.
