RCIPS helicopter

(CNS): The RCIPS helicopter is out of service after it crashed Tuesday afternoon as it attempted to take off from Owen Roberts International Airport. A police spokesperson said that the tail of the chopper was damaged after it hit the ground during a “sudden aborted take-off”. No one was injured during the landing, which happened around 4:30pm. In a short release about the incident, the RCIPS said that “the helicopter suffered an uncontrolled command failure while lifting off” for what would have been a routine deployment.

The sudden aborted take-off caused the tail of the helicopter to strike the ground, causing damage. The Cayman Islands Airport Authority was immediately informed, police stated, and attended the scene of the crash, along with all the relevant emergency services.

Too bad. Progress in EE is now defeated. Days before and until the crash, the helicopter was very active in EE…

It’s so sad we only have one system in place when such incidents occur we should always have a back plan. Why is it we keep buying junk from certain special interest control by those who rule us at premium prices.i understand our govt is trying to set up radar now but that too is mired down understand in political meddling and favoritism and nepotism and serious conflicts of interest. I really hope we don’t buy more junk which cost more to maintain like our grand camera scam we currently have. stop buying used junk from mama Cayman.

The RCIPs helicopter is a NEW Airbus H145, who told you it was used and a junk piece of equipment? This “used junk” has saved countless lived and has aided in the capture of several runaway drivers. Also, if you’re referring to the helicopter we bought from a military base in the UK then I can assure you they are in no way junk as maintenance is high priority when it comes to military aircraft.

You have a concern for the RCIPs not having a backup helicopter all while complaining we don’t buy more equipment to spend more on maintenance. Which one do you want?!

      Goodness how misinformed are?

First serious incident since it went into RCIPS service – for a helicopter that age being operated in this climate it’s a pretty impressive record.

Uncontrolled command failure, sounds a lot like operator error. When you’re paying highly-trained pilots to give the machine its commands you shouldn’t have any of these. Esp dangerous/expensive while still in ground effect.

In no aircraft operator report has an uncontrolled command failure been attributed to pilot error. Not sure how much things you’ve got missing up there, but this sounds like an issue stemming from mechanical degredation.

      • Anonymous says:

You total moron. The pilot feeds his command to the aircraft, but if for some technical reason the aircraft fails to respond how is that the operators error?

As usual, the typical ignorant comments…
„Uncontrolled command failure while lifting off“, rules pilot error out or not?
The pilot deserves rather credit for using his training to deal with the emergency situation
in split seconds. Glad no one was hurt. It would be nice if the public will get an update
on why this situation occured, technical/weather related etc.

Here, here! The expertise of the pilot probably saved the lives of everyone on board and anyone in its locality. Instead of making ignorant comments about ‘operator error’, try looking through your blinkered, uneducated view of the world and realise that an entire crew, have walked away from a potential catastrophe that could have taken many lives.
I hope the ignorance demonstrated on this page isn’t replicated by those in power, and the pilot and crew are formally recognised for their bravery and skill under extreme duress.

be careful with that, it doesn’t matter who the Pilot in command was. No aviator is above the next, the risk one is exposed to isn’t bias, discriminating or prejudice.

Don’t blame your cousin being a woman beater on the alcohol or being drunk

Being drunk doesn’t force people to suddenly do things they would never otherwise do
It just makes them do the things they want to do but don’t
