    Info.

I was with a friend in one of the roads by crewe road round-a-bout and we heard a “pow” sound, what appeared to be like a gun fired off. I said to me friend you heard that. Both of us agreed it sound like a gun. Then my friend said if I heard that guns were stolen today. It happened around 10:30 p.m.

There is absolutely no reason for people to own guns in Cayman for precisely this reason. SMH

What reason? The firearms is more then likely used for sport shooting. It is property like a TV. It can have lethal consequences just like driving a car. Actually you are less likely to have an accident using a firearm properly Then driving an automobile properly. There are well over 1000 legal guns on this Island. Rarely are any stolen or used in crimes. The people are vetted thoroughly and inspections made. These people were victims of a burglary. Do not start anti gun voices because of some thief. Really as the police proved them having guns are not as safe as they have employed and armed a suspected murder. I know the what of it is used to Rob or kill……..me thinks the streets have enough iillegal guns that that point is redundant. The police approach is poor here

  3. Thompson & Thomson says:

These are almost always “inside jobs”. The burglars work with cleaners, AC repairmen and other service types who are invited into your house and are on the look out.

RCIPS is not known for seeing and following obvious trails however. So expect the usual platitudes about homeowners needing to lock windows and doors.

Not in this story but reported elsewhere – Police said it appeared that the guns had been locked in a safe, as required for private gun owners, but that the burglars managed to locate the keys and open the safe.

  5. Anonymous says:

Gun owners who don’t have there firearms safely secured should not own any. That is foolishness. Buy a proper safe and bolt the damn thing to the ground.

  6. Anonymous says:

No one should have guns in Cayman besides some police and the criminals.

Within a few weeks or so, you will hear and read of new armed robberies likely involving the use of these two long or already cut/sawed off firearms.

Thieves are no longer hitting random targets and not necessarily at nights; but are being very selective in their criminal pursuits.

Baines you have lost TOTAL CONTROL of keeping crime to an acceptable level here in the Cayman Islands.

UK POLICING STRATEGY FROM 2005 – 2015 IS AN “ABSOLUTE FAILURE” HERE IN THE CAYMAN ISLANDS.

We told each and every UK commissioner this would be the result but they just DIDN’T CARE OR WANT TO LISTEN. It didn’t work in Brixton, Birmingham, Liverpool etc.. and so what made them think it would work here in the Cayman Islands ??

KURT WALTON we respect you, trust you and know that you’re a thorough investigator; who have great potential to be our new RCIPS Commissioner of Police.

I say it’s past time to get rid of Baines and his UK cohorts. Retire others in the upper ranks who don’t have leadership qualities and don’t renew the contracts of lazy officers who are getting in the way of those who have potential to make a positive difference in our community.

    These thieving dogs who roam
our streets and burgled our homes have ate our breakfast, lunch and now they are actively seeking to eat our supper as well.

It’s time to START AFRESH in terms of policing the Cayman Islands.

It seems like West Bay is a den of iniquity. Yes we should select a new Commissioner of Police from there, we really need someone who has a criminal and drugs background to catch these guys, a born Caymanian who has all the right contacts.

First, whoever broke into this house, knew damn well they had firearms…Secondly, I thought it was the law that firearms are suppose to be kept in a secure safe?? Or it depends on who they stole the firearms from?

Please please pleas tell me you’re not talking about a ‘sheriff mac’. Please

You sèèm to have àlot of hàte ànd groudge for West Bày ànd àll it residents, whàt dißtrict do you live in? Sure it is no where in the Caymàn Islands because I cannot think of one thing thàt has happened in West Bày thàt is not tàking plàce in Eàst End, North Side, BoddènTown, Càymàn Bràc ànd Little Càymàn, HOWEVER with the àmount of hàte ànd jealousy you hàve for West Bày’s ànd its residents it iß quite possibly thàt you from you perfect dißtrict with distinguished residents is responsible for this crime. Just saying Perfect citizen, Perfecçrime, ànd Perfect locàtion.

So 6.37? What’s your point? Don’t hold back.
Oh, just as a side note, what’s your idea for putting this right and how much will it cost? Too many are good at slagging off but have no idea how to do it better.

Police cant stop all crime smarty pants, unless you have a police at every premises 24/7 so people should be quiet about what police can do, the best they can do is hover over west bay or town for an hour or two

    • Eddy Nugent says:

Looking forward to watching the new cayman policing strategy roll out. Can this be delayed for a while until i get my house sold and get out of here?

  8. Anonymous says:

My guess is that the guns were not in their safes, if that is the case the owners should forfeit the right to own a firearm.

    • Anonymous says:

Err, they did Einstein at 5.56

      • Anonymous says:

Err, they did what, 8:22? Have their guns in a safe, or forfeit the right to own a firearm? Either way this is not mentioned in the story, so I don’t know why you, who apparently have knowledge of this event would choose to insult the former poster.

        • Anonymous says:

They forfeited their right to own guns by the technical point of them being stolen. Which bit did you not get?

          • Anonymous says:

Technically speaking yes the owner did forfeit his firearms. However traditionally depending on the victims’s connections they have been simply allowed to replace at least what they lost. The part I didn’t get was, how long you been yah?

            • Anonymous says:

Some just don’t know when to give up

              • Anonymous says:

Some are just ignorant to the issue at hand but have to have the last word

              • Anonymous says:

The point in question was the right to possess firearms, not their actual forfeiture. If my car is stolen, do I lose the right to purchase another? I know this is a deep intellectual concept, but think about it, Einstein.

  9. Cass says:

I could be missing something but aren’t licensed gun owners meant to have their guns and ammunition locked safely away? Does this mean that they were able to break-in to a safe!? Or were the weapons and ammo left out insecurely?

  10. Anonymous says:

Wonder what they wanted those pea shooters for? I though AK-47’s and AR15s are standard issue in WB.
