Driver arrested over death of rider

(CNS): The Bodden Town man who was arrested for drinking and driving following a fatal crash on the Linford Pierson Highway early Saturday morning has now also been arrested on suspicion of causing the death of Matthew Owens by dangerous driving. The unnamed 35-year-old driver of a BMW has not yet been charged with any crime but had been bailed to appear at George Town police station today following the accident, in which he was also injured. The man was once again bailed to return to the police station on 23 September. A third man who was driving a Toyota Mark II remains in hospital in stable condition.

Owens (31),who was riding a motorbike, was killed at the scene of the crash, which happened at around 1am on Saturday morning. He was the eighth person to die on Cayman’s roads this year.

Police are asking for anyone with information regarding this accident to contact George Town Police Station at 949-4222 or Crime Stoppers at 800-8477(TIPS).
