Cheese slices recalled after customers choke
(CNS): The Cayman Islands is one of the countries involved in a voluntary recall of cheese slices made Kraft Heinz after customers reportedly choked on pieces of the plastic wrapping. The voluntary recall by the global food producer covers a large number of manufacturing codes of individually-wrapped American slices. The firm said that a thin strip of the individual packaging film may stick to the slice after the wrapper has been removed, causing a potential choking hazard.
Some 335,000 additional cases of the recalled product were shipped by Kraft Heinz to retailers in the US and Puerto Rico, Anguilla, Bahamas, Belize, Bermuda, Cayman Islands Grand Cayman, Netherland Antilles, Saint Kitts and Nevis, South Korea, St. Lucia, and British Virgin Islands.
“Consumers who purchased this product should not eat it. They should return it to the store where purchased for an exchange or full refund,” the company stated in a release detailing the problem.
The recall began last month but has now been expanded and includes the previously recalled 3 LB and 4 LB sizes of Kraft Singles American and White American pasteurized prepared cheese product with a “Best When Used By” date of 29 DEC 15 through 04 JAN 16, followed by the Manufacturing Code S54 or S55.

OOps Heinz forgot to apply the release agent between the plastic and the cheese substitute slices.
Haven’t had this stuff in eons but last time I did I recall wondering where was the cheese.
Notice it’s called “processed cheese product”? It can’t legally be called “cheese” as it contains less than 51% cheese.
The real cause is that the plastic actually tasted better than the cheese!

This problem is a real risk because one would not noticed there was plastic attached to the cheese since cheese is plastic flavored.

I thought they had used plastic film between the slices for years to keep the slices from sticking together. But maybe it was other brand(s).
