ACC makes 11th arrest in immigration probe
(CNS): Officers from the Anti-Corruption Commission arrested a 57-year-old woman from George Town Tuesday in connection with a near year-long inquiry into corruption at the immigration department. The woman, who is the eleventh person to be arrested in this case, was described as a public official. She was arrested on suspicion of bribery of a public officer, fraud on government and breach of trust, all contrary to the Anti-Corruption Law.
The woman was understood to have been taken to the detention centre at Fairbanks, George Town, for questioning in regard to the ongoing investigation, in which the first arrests were made in January.
The ACC has given no details regarding the probe, which is believed to focus on the tests administered by immigration for permanent residency applicants. The last arrest happened exactly one week ago and officials confirmed Tuesday that all other people arrested in the case have been bailed.

untenable position that Government has placed its workers in…can’t get jobs in the private sector..can’t get a decent raise or bonus in the public sector.
fish has gotta swim..birds gotta eat!
With so many arrests, assuming there are charges, the prosecuting authorities will face a terrible “Cayman jury” problem as it will be impossible to fill a jury which has no connections to one of the defendants. Cayman juries are atrocious at convicting at the best of times.
Does this mean all immigration issues dealt with by these “public officials” will be reviewed and fees received accounted for?
this is the same reason there should be less, not more, cayman cops….
Like the ones that assault people and evade charges?
Immigration should be run by non-caymanians in london. problem solved.
When it was, only 20 years ago, it worked, and Caymanians were protected. Put the Governor back in charge!
That would make it worst, expats are just glad to hear this to use caymanians mistakes as a crutch to open there mouths. No one in this world comes from a place thats “better” than anywhere else.
You don’t travel much, do you?
Why are you here if this country is so disgusting?
I did not say it was. In fact, I believe it is the best place on earth. Switzerland is also a nice place, as is Botswana, and the Mid-west of the USA (but parts of Chicago are not as good a place to live).
Iceland is great, but too cold for me.
Zimbabwe is presently a shit-hole (but may now have some hope), and Yemen has a long way to go before I would describe it as better than Jordan.
The fact is though that people do come from places that are better than others. We are blessed that Cayman is among the best. We should do all we can to keep it that way.
Or believe getting an education.
Fire all Caymanians in immigration and fill it with Expats. This will assist Cayman in generating the wealth it so desires very quickly.
There are other Government Departments that need attention as well. Hopefully we will hear soon
That Compass editorial springs to mind. Remember the one that Alden tried to bully the editor after for saying the truth?
Lots of arrest, now show us lots of charges and a court date.
Keep arresting them, I need a job.
LMAO
It seems like this kind of corruption has been going on for many years with even retired staff. For instance like the board approves a temporary work permit and the computer is showing a full work permit. The public has been complaining about this for many years. No wonder some of them can ahead so fast. It is called corruption.
I quote “Corruption is endemic in Cayman Culture”.
So now….which of these departments are 100% Caymanian? Ah yes, Immigration, Post Office, Customs and Fire. So how is that working out…………..
Proof is in the pudding.
I know everything in Cayman is top secret and hush – hush; but at some point transparency must occur.
One way to solve the “unemployment problem”.
All these arrests makes me think this is so, so big. Looks like they wanna nail all the bad apples one time and done.
LOL, only 11 arrests and yet every day you can come across more instances of corruption than this. The ACC is a joke.
The public has a right to know at least, where these people were employed, even if they can’t be named at this stage, and whether they are still at their jobs.
You feel the urge to gossip so much that you would risk interfering with the investigation, priorities
I can hear the canary singing so beautifully just outside my window.
Toto, I have a feeling you are not in Cayman any more…
Dorothy, I’m not in Cayman.
We don’t have canaries in Cayman, idiot. What you’re hearing is a ching-ching or a banana bird.
At what point did I say I was in Cayman? You are the idiot to think only people in Cayman can comment on CNS. Reading is fundamental kid. Now who is the idiot?! lmao
Lol !! Lovely isn’t it ?!
All I gotta say is this. For us taxpayers, let’s hope these arrests are fruitful and lead to charges that can stick or we’ll be paying out or ass’ yet again when these people sue the CIG.
Immigration department dropping like flies. No sah
When you stir shit, it gets stinker. The department is a melting pot of corruption. I hope for their sakes, some charges are brought forth, because after 11 arrests in almost a year and not one charge as yet, will make the ACC look like incompetent, bench warmers aka most of government.
11 arrests in a year is not an insignificant number even over a 12 yr period. You can hardly then refer to them as bench warmers. The rest is up to the DPP.
Is there anyone’s left at Immigration who hasn’t been arrested or suspended?
