Immigration warns customers of scam email

| 11/04/2017 | 4 Comments

(CNS): A scam email circulating that purports to be from the Cayman Islands Department of Immigration is loaded with malware and will harm computers, government officials have warned. The phishing attempt has been going out to various clients with the immigration suggesting there has been a change in regulations, but the public is urged not to open the link because not only can it harm your device, it could also harm your network.

The email is originating from WPPP@immigration.gov.ky, which on the surface appears to be from immigration but is actually a fake address set up to catch unsuspecting people.

Immigration said that if the department has implemented any new laws, regulations or policies they will be posted to the DoI website.

Title should read; “Immigration warns it is a Scam”

These scams are not even clever. IT departments are broadcasting emails about how good they are at spotting these and it is unbelieveably obvious it is a scam. Seriously, anyone who clicks on the fake link (very easy to see) should not be using a computer. We need more Caymanians in IT positions instead of pompous Brits with their colonial attitude

Received this email and deleted it immediately. First thought was, where did immigration get my email address, second thought was why is this the first time I’m hearing about this? Cayman is too small, the news is normally the second source of information – word of mouth normally takes care of that. LOL
