Rookie cop pursues and nets armed shoplifter

(CNS): A female police officer who graduated from the 2015 recruitment class was in the thick of the fight against crime Tuesday when she chased down and arrested a very resistant shoplifting suspect. Just before 8:30 on Tuesday morning, the police officer responded to the report of a shoplifter at the airport branch of Foster’s Food Fair. When the rookie cop arrived, she spotted the person who made the report following a man who was running across Dorcy Drive. She was told he was the suspect and that he was armed with a knife.

The officer called for back-up but nevertheless chased the armed man through the parking lot to Printers Way and watched as he discarded an object as he was running.

The suspect clenched his fist as if to strike the officer when confronted, police said, but the officer commanded him to stop and managed to apprehend the suspect while he continued to wrestle and resist.  The officer arrested the 47-year-old George Town man on suspicion of theft, resisting arrest and assaulting police, as other officers arrived to assist and take the man into custody.

He was later charged and appeared in court Wednesday. He is currently on remand in HMP Northward.

CNS -Great RCIPS work, but why do u allow comments here but not for those serious criminals who are charged, before their days in court?
We have opinions to express of rapists, robbers etc also.

CNS: Because the comments that you want to make about people charged would be sub judice (prejudicial to the defendant) and therefore illegal for us to post. This is illustrated by the way you framed this comment – you label them as “rapists, robbers, etc”, i.e. already guilty because they have been charged. The comments on this story are open so that people can comment on the actions of the police officer in question.

Seems like RCIPS officers are more motivated since Baines’ departure. Mmmm, wonder if Her Excellency has noticed??

Meanwhile yesterday around 4pm a juvenile delinquent without a helmet on an unlicensed trail bike was roaring up and down the road in front of the Bodden Town police station. His noisy taunting apparently went unnoticed.

Good job girlfriend. You need an award for bravery. Congrats. Us women kick butt first then ask questions afterwards

Yes well done. But it is her job to confront criminals or wrong doing, it’s not being brave, it’s called being professional. And for that she should be congratulated as she is definitely in a minority of RCIPS officers that could be considered the same.

    Good going, rookie.

The commanded to stop made me chuckle and then this popped into my head:

‘STOP! In the name of Law
    Before you break any more.

Man, man I’m aware of where you go
Each time you leave Foster’s door
I watch you run down the street
Knowing the other law you’ll meet’
