Robber armed with machete makes off with cash
(CNS): Police have opened an armed robbery investigation after a machete-wielding robber held up the McRuss convenience store in George Town in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Just after 1:15am on 3 December, police officers were dispatched to Eastern Avenue, where witnesses reported a man wearing dark-coloured clothing entered the store carrying the machete and stole an undisclosed quantity of cash.
The suspect then fled on foot, headed towards School Road off Eastern Avenue, according to the RCIPS release. Police did not indicate whether or not anyone was hurt during the stickup, and no arrests appear to have been made.
Detectives are encouraging anyone with information about the robbery to call the George Town Police Station at 949-4222. Anonymous tips can be provided to the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777 or the website.

GET A JOBBB LIKE THE REST OF US!!! Unna is so embarrassing!!
We have come to the point where businesses need to spend some money:
1) Polycarbonate sheets instead of windows and door. Same as a barrier between the public and the clerk, used at least after hours, such that if a dumbass wants to stick up a store, the clerk can remotely lock the front door, safe behind the polycarbonate sheet, and wait for the RCIPS to show up. No need to play the game of Look for the Crook, because they are here.
2) After a few dumbasses are arrested, these events will shift only to those businesses that haven’t spent the money to protect their staff.
3) Of course, this proposal depends upon speedy arrest, detainment, prosecution, conviction and incarceration.
I know, I know. No, I didn’t just get here. Been here longer than most of you. I think we’ve come to that place where the public have to take a stand against these criminals. For all our sakes.
2) Incarcerate, and where applicable, then deport.
I wonder if the robber staggered (minus a walking stick, reserved only for court appearances) around the side and pissed up the wall, our is that just elected officials that get to do that?
sadly these occurences are going to increase as people become more desperate especially around the holidays.
There is no excuse for this. We have the NAU and food banks. Stop making excuses for bad people.
Didn’t look like an excuse to me so much as a statement of fact. Historically, these incidents increase around the holiday season, and as we continue to import throngs of poverty with very little (if any) background checks, we can expect crime to continue to skyrocket alongside our already-nigh-unmanageable population.
It’s easier to make excuses and blame others than face reality. Reality might actually cause you to have to change.
Criminals act like criminals. Good decent folks figure out another path instead of becoming a criminal.
Grant tens of thousands of work permits to people that cannot afford to live here on what they earn. Grant Caymanian status to thousands of people who couldn’t afford to live here before they were granted status, and the family members they shipped over after they got status weren’t educated enough to earn a decent wage. This is the result.
Nowhere in this article does it say an expat did this. This is why Cayman is the way it is today, because we as Caymanians are so up our own behind we can’t see that it’s us that are failing our people, and this is the result. This person most likely was a Caymanian. No work permit holder is risking their right to be here by doing this. Not saying it doesn’t happen, but 9 time out of 10, a Caymanian is the perpetrator. We need to look in the mirror Caymanians and stop blaming everyone else under the sun. Caymanians sold Cayman out, no one else could have.

All Jamaicans are now Caymanian, thanks Mac.
This is yet another example of a xenophobic comment. To illustrate, I can point to a robbery that occurred in my neighborhood this year, just a two-minute walk from my house. The individual responsible was a full-born and bred, generational Caymanian, with both of his parents also being Caymanian. How do I know this? He and I went to primary and high school together and grew up in the same neighborhood throughout our childhood. It’s important for some older, xenophobic Caymanians to realize that crimes are committed by people of all backgrounds, including their own. By the way, the very news outlet that reported the robbery is this same one we are using lol.
Dude, read the comment again, as it was not specific to only disadvantaged expats (disadvantaged meaning, not making enough money to survive). The commenter also noted the thousands of disadvantaged expats that were granted status by Cabinet grant back in the early 2000’s. Many of those people had families back in their home country and sent money earned in Cayman back to those families. That money was often enough to build homes back in their home countries and educate children in their home countries. Many of those that were granted status then brought those family members here and then realized that, while they were able to support those families by sending money home, they could not support those families here. NAU was not even a thing before those status grants. Those family members have now no doubt been granted status themselves. There a many underprivileged and struggling status grant Caymanian families that aren’t able to survive here. So it only makes sense that some may be involved in the uptick in crime. I think the comment pointing out that Cabinet and MAC didn’t think of this when they approved those grants. They didn’t think down the road and now we’re all dealing with the repercussions.
Any real need to have a convenience store open at 1:15AM? Think about it.
Presumably for the convenience.
I see what you did. Stop making sense.
You know some people work shifts, right?
When you go to sleep there’s a whole army of people up and doing their thing.
