Satellite system suspended in face of hurricane
(CNS): The Western Hemisphere satellite imagery on the Cayman Islands National Weather Service website will be temporarily removed Tuesday night as the CINWS suspends the system as a precautionary measure to protect the critical equipment ahead of the impending arrival of Hurricane Beryl. This won’t impact the Kearney Gomez Weather Radar, however, which will remain online during the storm, officials said.
The temporary suspension of satellite imagery will remain in effect until it is deemed safe to resume operations. The decision was made to ensure the safety and functionality of the satellite equipment, which is crucial for providing the service’s regular weather updates, officials said.
Meanwhile, satellite imagery of Beryl continues to be available on the US National Hurricane Center website.

in this case – how does shittong down an internet link from one website to the CINWS website protect the CINWS ability to acces the originating wrbsite? did they have to move their desktop to a highet desk?
* this affects CIG as well as private sector. for companies that ‘outsource’ their PR. (even if just to another CIG dept. in this case.) local PR comapnies must especially teain in producing opaque press releases.
Fortunately most folks get their wx info directly from internet sites. CIG rebroadcasting the same images is a waste of time. Why didn’t the Wx service just post the alternate links in the same message saying they wouldn’t be able to provide the info? Searching for relevance maybe?

In other news, hospital accudent and emergency plans to shut down if there are too many accidents and emergencies, and firefighters if there are any fire outbreaks. RCIPS is shot down all the time anyway so no change there.

Even better – they are shutting down satellite imagery which they obtain by internet. How exactly is that protecting equipment? Meanwhile the good news is that you can get the satellite imagery online anyway. So what exactly do these people do in terms of adding value?
