(CNS): Susan Doak, a local midwife of many years who retired last year after 45 years of service with the hospital, delivering over 1,270 babies, was awarded an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours list this weekend. Meanwhile, Derek Byrne, who served as the Commissioner of Police in the Cayman Islands for nearly seven years, from November 2016 until his departure last summer, has received a police medal.

The worst commissioner! This is unbelievable. Must be services rendered to the PPM. When he got here the CIG set aside a budget for a new GTPS but he scuttled the plans to go with a $40m enterprise in WB which was the deal that PPM struck with Bush at the time but in fairness it was to replace the badly needed West Bay police station but he expanded it that made no sense.
Almost a million spent to fill a land that he was told was in a flood prone area that he ignored.

WP put a stop to it as it was still on track when PACT came to power as he recognized that it was a dumb idea.
Today GTPS is abandoned and boarded up like a third-world country. The island is awash in guns and drugs. He demotivated the rank-and-file. Amass millions in law suits.
    And he’s awarded the KPM!
For godsake the man was the highest paid commissioner of police and delivered nothing for it.

    The Top Cop too??!!
    Eg.
At his inaugural public meeting he promised to remove the requirement for victims of crimes and accidents to have to pay for their own incident reports.
But in his time the fees more than doubled!
Don’t look for restorative justice or victim compensation in Cayman, between the popo and the abackwards courts.

Blame your politicians for fee increases. Gotta pay for those Civil Service salaries, Ministers travel expenses, black SUVs, pandemic handouts.

Yay for Sue! She deserves it! The cop? Not so much. We have the worst force who do nothing because of him.

To be fair, not because of him…you can blame him for failing to lead or change the RCIPS to a point where it does its job, but the issues are not due to factors introduced by him. And will no doubt continue.

With all due respect (which is to say, none at all) you’re an idiot if you don’t think crime worsened under his watch, directly due to his policies.

As soon as we switched over to a Caymanian with integrity, crimes started being solved. Some almost a decade old. You think that is a coincidence? Or you think that is at least possibly indicative of an immigrant ex-CoP with no ties to our island not caring what happens XXXX?

What a joke. Byrne single handedly put policing in Cayman back 20 years. I imagine the wet lettuce Roper nominated him.

He is the absolute worst I’ve been trying to get some information out regarding him and his behavior as the Commissioner shame

If you are, as your handle says, “a concerned BT voter”, I would suggest you direct all your attention away from a cop who has left the islands to a sitting MP in BT East who does eff all for us, either as a constituency or a country, because so many issues are related to his own personal employment practices, relying as they do on exploiting cheap FOREIGN ( never Caymanian) labor. Name one…ONE…useful thing this brainless MP has done, “concerned BT voter”!

Well said 7.35… that goes for your other Jamaican MP and his re-election team working to turn us into Jamaica.

7:35pm. The only thing that brain box is concerned about is providing bags on weekends for his Jamaican voting base.

I’m flabbergasted that anybody thinks that the previous COP deserves any type of positive feedback for his work.

We should all be grateful to see the back of him.

Giving a gong to this fellow for managing Cayman’s police farce is as pointless as giving a medal to Paula Vennells.

    The gong system is broken.

……….but is not broken as it gave an MBE do a highly deserving person like Sue Doak. Congratulations Sue!

Broke when the guy got the MBE for inviting the Governor to black tie events at his house, fixed by award to Mrs Doak who earned it .
