Drone ban enforced to protect royals

Cayman News Servie(CNS)) As Cayman gears up for the arrival of the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, agencies across government are on high alert to ensure the security of the royal couple during their 24-hour visit. The Civil Aviation Authority of the Cayman Islands (CAACI) is implementing airspace restrictions, which will largely impact drones. In compliance with the Air Navigation (OT) Order, all aircraft, including small unmanned aircraft (SUAs), will be banned from Government House, the Ritz Carlton, Pedro St James and Clifton Hunter High School at the relevant times, the CAACI has said.

The aviation authority added that it would be collaborating with the RCIPS to ensure the restricted airspace is appropriately policed and any infringement could lead to prosecution.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the restriction applies to both approved commercial SUA/drone operators and recreational enthusiasts unless specifically approved for this event by the CAACI,” officials added.

The restriction will apply to the following locations at the times noted:

5NM from sea level to 2,000ft MSL centred on the Governor’s residence, latitude 19°20.439’ longitude 81°22.887 from 11am on 27 March until 8pm on 28 March.

1NM from sea level to 2,000ft MSL over the Ritz-Carlton, latitude 19°20.149’ longitude 81°22.615’ from 3pm to 5pm on 28 March.

1NM from sea level to 2,000ft MSL centred on Pedro St. James latitude 19°16.002’ longitude 81°17.498’ from 3pm to 10pm on 28 March.

2NM from sea level to 2,000ft MSL at Clifton Hunter High School latitude 19°18.646’ longitude 81°11.040’ from 1pm to 3pm on 28 March.

It’s 1 1/2 miles from the Governors residence not 5. Does raise the question why they have a separate ban for the Ritz when the Ritz is within the 1.5 mile circle which applies during the period the Ritz ban is in place. TCIPS didn’t think?

I wish drones would be banned to protect all residents. They are noisy, intrusive and a real nuisance.

Helicopters, jackhammers and trucks do not come within 3 feet of your face when you are on the beach or in the pool and hover, filming you. That’s my point.

Not all drones film, and by far the majority of drone operators are responsible. People are entitled to have interests. I use mine for movie making and aerial photography, I respect peoples privacy and rarely go below 100 feet, but there you are saying ALL should be banned. Drones also can deliver medical supplies, detect fire hotspots, people trapped in collapsed structure and go where it is very dangerous for humans to go. Don’t be such a whiner.

Says the “Anonoymous” coward who hasn’t got the courage to put their name to their insulting post.

And using the name sole name ‘Kim’ is not anonymous? Do you understand the difference between cowardice and anonymity? You could at least attempt to write a relative and cogent argument rather than nugatory comments

It is not just to protect the royals, it is to protect the entire crowd. We dont need a bunch of hobbyists crashing their drones.

Amateur drones should be banned near any large crowds (they were for Kaaboo).

Oh the irony. There are no bigger drones than the royals themselves.
