Bracker admits killing nurse in crash
(CNS): Paul Mannix Scott (38) admitted causing the death by dangerous driving of healthcare worker Sharon Gayle-Clarke (51) in a two-car smash on Cayman Brac last October, when he appeared in Grand Court Friday. The collision happened around 11:00pm on Bight Road, near Tibbetts Turn, when the Honda Accord that Scott was driving crashed into Gayle-Clarke’s RAV4 at speed. After Scott pleaded guilty, he was bailed until sentencing in May. He also handed over his driver’s licence after the judge ordered that the mandatory driving ban of five years should start following conviction.
Defence attorney Nick Dixey said that there was a considerable discrepancy between all of the expert reports about the speed that Scott was doing at the time of the crash, ranging from around 50mph to over 80mph, but his client was unable to recall the details.
Dixey told the court it was a tragic case and that the defendant had been distressed that he had been unable to express his remorse and sympathy to the victim’s family until the case was investigated.
Stay strong my brother fr gcm, dallas=wp.
I agree with you CNS.
Paul this is a small speed bump on the road of life. Good on you for admitting your fault. You’ll come out better than ever!
Not such a small speed bump for the dead nurse.
Was the Nurse a Caymanian?
4:19 What a callous classless comment
Not if you actually knew the guy! He’s heartbroken over this!
No one is saying he is not heartbroken. The point is it was an extremely poor choice of words. It was a life ending event for one and undoubtedly a life altering event for Mr. Scott.
He only pleaded guilty to not put the victims family through the grief of a trial. There was some evidence that would have come out at trial concerning the actual apeed of his vehicle and Paul probably could have won at minimum a lesser verdict. He simply did not was the victim’s family to go through this. We stand with you Paul. #Bracka
This the same Mannix who already served a stint in HMP Northward for manslaughter/GBH (stabbing)?
Ye but if you know who he stabbed you would change your mind.
So who was it?
This young man has been known to be a reckless driver. So much so, a vehicle I purchased which is high performance, was to go to him but the sellers were hesitant as he is a known drunk and dangerous driver. It was between the two of us and after the crash, I remember the day I got the call and sent it over from the brac. Wealthy families have too much pull on island at the detriment of justice for their kids actions. I hope at sentencing, we can ignore favors and have a proper punishment. He needs to find god and redemption.
No he isn’t. Since Mannix has rewritten himself, he’s been more on the straight and narrow than not.
He did the deed and has to pay for it, he knows that.
It doesn’t do Mr. Clark or Miss Sharon any good, but Mannix is as full of remorse as a person could be.
You forgot her poor child who is without a mother.
This is a good man, a good husband and a good father. He made a tragic mistake, which resulted in the death of a good wife and a good mother. A sad situation all around and one that underscores the need for appropriate policing on the Brac, including road blocks, and appropriate SELF-POLICING on the Brac. Help is available through the efforts of Alcoholics Anonymous, the National Drug Council and the Probation Department. If you or a family member has a problem, pick up the phone and call for a referral to someone who might be able to help.
Pefectly said, and accurate.
You would have to close and shutdown all three liquor stores that credit the booze, as well as selling it at all hours (even on Sunday).
Then you would have to close down the two bars that stay open, waayyy past, closing time (even on Sundays) that also sell alchohol after hours.
Then you would have to close the little old people that sell it out of their homes, one beer at a time (even on Sundays), oh yeh numbers too. In Watering Place, Stake Bay,West End, Pop A Top Park (a certain MLA’s spot) and Spot Bay.
Dont forget the drug dealers that, because they give the Police information on others, are protected and make deliveries, even at 6am.
The Police have been given alllllll this info, but alas, small island syndrome has the last say
Same Ole, Same Ole………….
DUI
We all make mistakes. Good man for admitting his guilt.
All is forgiven then?
Cause last time I checked a little remorse doesn’t bring back the woman who died because of his actions
There is nothing wrong with forgiveness but this idea that all you have to do is say ‘sorry’ and you’re good is ludicrous
A sad case on all sides.
3 thumbs down? WTF are you thumbing down? Are you happy the nurse is dead or this poor guy admitted to it? He made a terrible mistake that’s going to haunt him for life and she’s gone forever. It is a sad case all around.
I really wish that CNS would have a little decency with their headlines “Bracker admits killing nurse in crash” Who proofreads for them? What difference it makes if it was the no respected “Bracker” or if it was west Bayer, East Ender,or George Towner, the unfortunate accident happened. The Nurse deserves some respect to her title and the services she rendered and that her family find some closure. I am hoping the one who caused the fatality will be able to pu his life back together. Stop trying to outrun Cayman Marl road with they fallies and try and be a respectable media. I am waiting for you response.
CNS: You’re talking utter nonsense. The headline is a succinct and accurate summary of the article, which is what it is supposed to be. It is fact and fact only. Articles like this are always painful for everyone involved; there is no avoiding that for the media. If it is too painful for the reader, you should probably avoid reading articles about it. I don’t say that to be mean. I say that as sincere advice.
CNS: It’s always the foreigners fault. How dare you say a Bracker did something. (sarcasm)
They’re probably thumbing down the sad on both sides because a child is without his mother. Mannix is going to jail but he’s still alive and will be out in a few years. That child will never see his mother again.
