Cayman News Service(CNS): A 57-year-old Filipino man who was resident in Bodden Town died Sunday after swimming in the sea off Bodden Town yesterday (Sunday, 13 January). The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service said the 911 Communication Centre dispatched police and other emergency services in response to call about the incident. The man had been part of a group who were on two separate vessels about 200 yards from shore near Breakers. When he got into difficulties while swimming and was unable to get back onto the vessel the other men helped him get to the shore.

CPR was performed on the man by a member of the public until EMS, the Joint Marine Unit and uniform officers arrived, police said. EMS transported him to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Officers from the JMU located the vessel, which had drifted ashore some distance from the incident. The matter is under investigation by the police.

This was the third death in local waters since the start of the year, just two weeks ago.

Gregory Scott Azeltine (60) from North Carolina died following a snorkelling trip off the coast of Seven Mile Beach on 3 January and a toddler from a local family drowned off the coast of East End on Friday evening on the evening of Friday, 4 January.

These are trolls who are very sad people who get some kind of thrill out of getting a reaction like the one you wrote. Hopefully the loved ones of this man realise this.

I know the trolls will also “thumbs down” my reply, as another sign of immaturity.

To the trolls – I truly hope that it will not take a tragedy in your family for you to realise how cruel you are.

Condolences to his friends and families. My dear anonymous at 6:42 it is disappointing how low some people on here have fallen. They should take a leaf out of the filipino’s book, work hard, work well and have good manners when they have to come to our houses to service equipment, or cut grass etc. they get about our business efficiently and not turning a wrench or pushing a lawnmower with one hand and holding a cell phone with another.
Continue to take care of each other and stay safe.
