Police bust gamblers and drug users

(CNS): The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service conducted two drug operations over the weekend, one in East End and one on Cayman Brac, and also busted an illegal gambling ring in Bodden Town, arresting a total of seven people. On Friday, 25 January, police and customs officers on Cayman Brac searched a home on Dantzler Drive following tip-offs about drug activity in the area. During the raid police seized an undisclosed quantity of ecstasy, cocaine and ganja and arrested a 31-year -old woman on suspicion of possession and consumption of ecstasy, cocaine and ganja. She has since been released on bail. 

Also on Friday, officers from the Eastern Districts busted a gambling gang on Coe Wood Beach in Bodden Town. The police recovered lottery tickets, receipt and lottery books, along with a quantity of cash. They arrested two men, one a 48-year-old resident of George Town and the other a 26-year-old resident of Bodden Town, as well as two women, a 26-year-old resident of West Bay and 56-year-old resident of Bodden Town.

The four suspects were arrested on suspicion of unlawful gaming and possession of criminal property. They have all been granted bail as investigations continue.

On Sunday the police conducted another drug search at a home in Further Road, North Side, based on concerns raised in the community about drug dealing in the area. With the help of the K-9 Unit, police seized an undisclosed quantity of ganja in containers found in and around the premises, as well as one ganja plant and a quantity of cash, police said.

Two men, aged 56 and 24 from North Side, were arrested. The 56-year-old man has already been charged with possession of ganja and appeared in court Wednesday, while the younger man remains on bail.
