Cayman Islands Hospital

(CNS): With no let up in the number of collisions on the roads of Grand Cayman, another person landed in hospital in serious condition early Thursday after a crash on North Sound Road by Alissta Towers. Police said that around 2:20am on 3 January, a black Ford SUV and silver Lexus carrying six passengers collided on the northbound section of the road. Police and emergency personnel responded to the scene and closed the road until around 7:00 this morning.

It’s not yet clear how this particular crash happened but it follows a significant number of traffic smashes over the holiday period. Police recently reported that they dealt with 32 crashes over the three-day Christmas holiday and at least a dozen were very serious, with people being injured and in some cases trapped in their cars, and some vehicles overturned.

So let me get this straight, because it is 2:30 in the morning, Mr. or Mrs. Scrooge up top think that it is disturbing the neighbourhood to have emergency vehicles flashing their lights, because in his/her mind there is no one around on the roads at 2:30 in the mornings. So let us take Mr. or Mrs. Scrooge’s word for it that there are no sirens etc., because it is 2:30 in the morning and there really isn’t anyone on the road, and the emergency vehicles then decide not to flash their lights, and Joe Blow who is either heading to work at one of the many hotels on Island or Joe Blow’s wife just coming home from a tough shift at the said hotel, goes through the green light but because he/she does not hear sirens screaming or lights flashing misses the emergency vehicle running the red light (as they do all the time in an emergency). Then we have another accident on the road.

Flashing lights and sirens are there for a purpose. It is to tell everyone on the road to get out of the way because this is an emergency. As someone else pointed out … go get some ear plugs or take some Nyquil

There were 8 persons involved in this accident, 6 of them are still in the hospital so yes they would have needed all available units to respond to this emergency. Some people can be so disgusting, complaining about lives being saved, I pray they never have to disturb your neighborhood in the act of trying to save your life.

Too many people on this island and they keep coming. Most didn’t own a bike back home. Most don’t know how to drive period. No indicator … don’t know how to dim their lights. Plain and simple we got a big mess…

Can someone sweep the road properly? It punctured my bike tyre tonight on the way home, who do I send the repair bill to?

I understand that we have many serious issues… such as the port project, garbage collection woes / mount trashmore, green iguanas, education system, cost of living, etc., but one of the most dire things facing our beloved country is the situation on the roads.
We have way too many accidents/collisions (whatever you want to call them). Even the minor ones cause traffic delays and inconvenience. The more serious ones cause life-long suffering for those badly injured or the families of those killed.
We have way too many people cutting in and out of traffic, tailgating, not using indicators, driving well above (or in some cases well below) the speed limit, driving while impaired, driving while on the phone (or texting), using roundabouts improperly, riding bicycles on the wrong side of the road (with no lights while dressed in black), illegal parking in blue spots, etc.
We can do better… we MUST do better… for the sake of ALL residents and visitors who use our roads.
Let us all make a New Year’s Resolution to improve road safety in Cayman!

Obviously accidents are really unfortunate, but was the 20km 2:30am siren wakeup really necessary for responding officers going down ETH, past the hotels and sleeping residential neighbourhoods, all the way from West Bay? Was the traffic bad? Is it important that the public be awoken to participate in these tragedies? Similarly, does the Police helicopter really need to rattle overhead at <1000ft when transiting peaceful residential communities at 4am? We get that there is work to be done, and it's great that it's being done, but is there someone specific they are trying to impress? Unless it's necessary to clear a path, basic consideration for those that prefer to not be included in every 9/11 call-out, would be appreciated, especially after midnight. Thanks.

So, let me get this straight: our family should have to wear earplugs at night, and miss our real world morning alarms, so that the selfish third, fourth or fifth hand responders from West Bay can go visit exciting accident scenes in neighboring districts tens of miles away, while they run their siren the whole route at 2:30am for no purpose? Do I have that right? Great advice.

What a selfish, self-absorbed thing to say.

Very inconsiderate comment. Maybe the sirens were on to let the victims know they were on their way.

Sirens are not to let the victims know they’re on their way. They are to alert traffic and pedestrians that an emergency vehicle is coming and to make way so they can get through quickly. If there’s no one on the road there’s no need to use sirens.

I really hope the accident victims, tens of miles away down by the airport, and within a mile of the hospital, weren’t waiting 20-30mins for a first responder in a cop car from West Bay. Even in the Cayman Islands that doesn’t make sense.

You complain because you get woken up when someone has to be taken to hospital. Are you for real?

Uhm, do action-starved night shift police officers from West Bay at 2:30am take accident victims near the airport to the hospital around the corner? No, they don’t. Nor is there any traffic to require more than lights for the full length of that 20km outting.

Forgive him. Hes one of the super rich old people that live in their own world. Where something that is normal for you and me would be absolutely horrific to his pampered lifestyle.
