Ambulance involved in crash, 4 Jan 2019

(CNS): An ambulance in the process of answering an emergency was involved in a three vehicle crash early this morning, according to the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service. The emergency vehicle was responding to a call with lights flashing and the siren on just before 7am on Friday, 4 January, and fortunately did not have a patient in the back at the time of the smash. Two people, believed to have been in the other vehicles involved in the collision, were taken to hospital for non-life-threatening-injuries by another ambulance that responded to the scene of the pile-up. No other details were released but police said the matter is now under investigation.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Traffic Management Unit at 649-6254 and speak with PC Matthew Thomas.

Fit the ambulances with dash cams, record their emergency trips and prosecute offenders based on the video evidence.

Cayman is so far behind in transportation tech. There should be cctv on major roads, and dash cams in all emergency vehicles! I personally never drive without mine! Insurance companies should start giving deductions to drivers who have them installed!

I think that is downright pathetic and disgraceful, and I bet the driver stays on the job .

Presuming that the driver(s) of the other vehicle was at fault, they should not drive again for about 10 years. Make sure that it is dealt with quickly & firmly. Publish the case results to great fanfare. The only way people will learn is to see the consequences of stupid actions.

The people that live here do not respect road users including emergency services. There needs to be a nationwide drive to educate the public on proper use of roads. On that note I’d like to implore the government to educate drivers on the proper use of the roundabouts!!! It’s becoming very scary to drive on these streets…

Ditto. On Saturday an ambulance was driving north on the west bay road. A taxi driver overtook me when I pulled off to the side and finally did the same to allow the ambulance that was right on his bumper to pass. BTW two seconds later the same taxi had to pull over again to let a passenger out.

i hope government replaces this ambulance quicker than they do the garbage trucks.

The lunatics on the road are not paying attention. When there is the sound of a siren, you look to see if it is moving in your direction, up or down, then pull off to the side of the road to slow the vehicle to pass. In the process of pull off most of the lunatics over take you and at times block the way.
Police should be summoned when and emergency vehicle is called out, because the drivers should no regard for such incidents. Educate those silly fat heads.

Cars pulling over for an ambulance is an opportunity for some to overtake, and to get directly behind the ambulance and follow it all the way is a bonus.

I live near a main road. This is how it goes: heavy sound of rain. 10 minutes later, siren noises. You can almost set your watch to it.
