The Makaira

(CNS): The police have launched an investigation following the report of yet another stolen boat. The owner of the vessel has been off-island so it is not clear when the 26’ Stingray Census boat, the Makaira, was stolen from the Sunrise Landing in Savannah. The theft was reported to the RCIPS on Tuesday and police are now appealing to the public for information about the white hulled boat with a blue Bimini top, a centre console and a 1994 Hull Dusky 225HP Honda engine.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call George Town Police Station at 949-4222 or the Joint Marine Unit at 649-7710.

Anonymous tips can be provided directly to the RCIPS via the Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777 or via the Miami-based call centre of Crime Stoppers at 800-8477(TIPS), or online here.

Our waters should be policed more. We could have channel markers that identify the boats coming and going to our shores. This would solve many marine problems in our water.

Someone has a good little racket going exporting these boats. They don’t have the range to make it anywhere on their own so foreing vessels could well be towing them away. Time for night time patrols? Our boarders are like a sieve.
