Three car smash lands kids and adults in hospital

(CNS): Six people, including three children, were treated for minor injuries in hospital Tuesday morning following an early morning collision in the South Sound area of George Town during rush hour. Police said that no one suffered any serious injuries in the three car crash, which happened at around 7:30am on 18 October, close to the Chimes Condominiums, when a Toyota truck, a KIA SUV and a BMW all collided as the truck exited the condo parking lot.

All three vehicles were damaged and South Sound Road between the crash scene and the South Sound United Church was blocked until part of the road was cleared at about 8:15am, but it was not until 8:50am that the morning traffic was flowing freely again.

Police are now investigating the smash and anyone with information is asked to call the Traffic Management Unit at 649-6254.

And of course – despite police knowing that there is “rush hour” at a certain time along South sound road you NEVER see any cops there pulling the ones over who think they need to overtake 10 cars at a time by going 60 mph!

When oh when will RCIP enforce traffic laws?

Was the driver of the truck breathalyzed?.

Children were in an accident and everyone is complaining about the traffic. Wow.

9:42, I did state that I hope that all involved were ok, not sure what else you would want me to say. And clearly you didn’t have to sit in the traffic along South Sound for an hour and a half (2hrs total to get from Savannah – GT) yesterday which could have been avoided had a cop been stationed at Grand Harbor diverting traffic away from the accident, that’s what normally happens in the real world.

Whilst I am sorry that children were involved and I sincerely hope that everyone is recovering well, it was appalling that there was no police at the top of SS road to redirect traffic. Such a simple act that would have alleviated a lot of stress but I guess that is too proactive for the police force. Imagine my surprise or lack thereof when I witnessed a police officer involved this morning on Spotts road close to Ocean Club.

Hey idiots, you know not a ting. Maybe the police did do a good job. Maybe they were directing traffic around the situation because of the ambulance and multiple fire units on scene. Making sure the first responders and bystanders that can’t help walk around the scene did not get injured. It was an accident. Get over it. It may be you one day. While you are sitting there with your children and the cars are zipping by with drivers not paying attention because they are trying to get a glimpse of the carnage or perhaps take a video or picture that they may run someone down. Traffic will wait. You will make it to work. I’m sure your normally late anyway so take the time to enjoy actually having a real reason to be late.

Nope. Sorry. We do know a ting or tooo. I worked as an EMT for years and understand the importance of quick response more than most. I also understand common sense when directing traffic around the minor to horrific accidents I’ve seen. This particular traffic control was beyond ridiculous. The officers on the scene clearly did zero analysis beyond the immediate area. There was no grasp of the impact to surrounding roads (even to get the ambulances to the site). Traffic would have still been backed up, but by half if one of the officers has exercised a bit of common sense with zero impact to helping the injured. Decent police (even average police) are trained to assess and react to the immediate situation, but also be aware of the bigger picture.

The Cayman Traffic Police Department should have protocols in place for routing traffic wherever an accident occurs – accident in location A means route traffic this way / accident in location B means route traffic that way. There aren’t that many roads in Cayman, but that would take extra work and research for the traffic department. This was another failure that could have been fixed so easily its frustrating.

I’m not normally late to my work, but with your attitude I can see why you missed that last promotion…

SSM345 it’s worst with a little fender bender! You would think in today’s policing and technology that this accident could not have been managed a bit more with commuters to work in mind and to place the accident on the local radio stationed.

Cayman Islands. Where everyone can agree that what was done today was stupid. And then do it tomorrow.

The police traffic handling of this was appalling. One lazy police officer at the top of Walkers road making cars turn around in that small space while the majority of traffic from South Sound road was turning into Walkers road. He created a dangerous situation while he lazily motioned with hand and wrist to turn around. So unprofessional, it is no wonder why the police are not respected.

Well it wasn’t rocket science to work out what happened !
I drove past about 3 minutes after and it was plain and simple.

  11. Harauguer says:

Stupidity, they was no reason for then to block the road.

  12. SSM345 says:

Hope everyone is ok. Can I suggest that the next time a crash of this magnitude happens during morning rush traffic that the RCIPS put a cop at the top of South Sound Rd where its meets Grand Harbor, to let everyone know and divert traffic? Or do we just have to flip through all the radio stations until a traffic update is provided?
