Rookie cop pursues and nets armed shoplifter
(CNS): A female police officer who graduated from the 2015 recruitment class was in the thick of the fight against crime Tuesday when she chased down and arrested a very resistant shoplifting suspect. Just before 8:30 on Tuesday morning, the police officer responded to the report of a shoplifter at the airport branch of Foster’s Food Fair. When the rookie cop arrived, she spotted the person who made the report following a man who was running across Dorcy Drive. She was told he was the suspect and that he was armed with a knife.
The officer called for back-up but nevertheless chased the armed man through the parking lot to Printers Way and watched as he discarded an object as he was running.
The suspect clenched his fist as if to strike the officer when confronted, police said, but the officer commanded him to stop and managed to apprehend the suspect while he continued to wrestle and resist. The officer arrested the 47-year-old George Town man on suspicion of theft, resisting arrest and assaulting police, as other officers arrived to assist and take the man into custody.
He was later charged and appeared in court Wednesday. He is currently on remand in HMP Northward.
CNS -Great RCIPS work, but why do u allow comments here but not for those serious criminals who are charged, before their days in court?
We have opinions to express of rapists, robbers etc also.
CNS: Because the comments that you want to make about people charged would be sub judice (prejudicial to the defendant) and therefore illegal for us to post. This is illustrated by the way you framed this comment – you label them as “rapists, robbers, etc”, i.e. already guilty because they have been charged. The comments on this story are open so that people can comment on the actions of the police officer in question.
Seems like RCIPS officers are more motivated since Baines’ departure. Mmmm, wonder if Her Excellency has noticed??
I hope the rest of the police officers aren’t too pissed off at her.
Most of the time they outrun the cops, this lady must be a real athlete with a very commanding voice.Full marks for devotion to duty.
Meanwhile yesterday around 4pm a juvenile delinquent without a helmet on an unlicensed trail bike was roaring up and down the road in front of the Bodden Town police station. His noisy taunting apparently went unnoticed.
My dear Chap, just one heroic arrest a day…wait in line!
maybe the same ones that stop through Delworths Esso and rev up then tear out….. still on the road.
Great job. I would love to hear more arrests. Need to start cleaning up this Island.
Good job girlfriend. You need an award for bravery. Congrats. Us women kick butt first then ask questions afterwards
Yes well done. But it is her job to confront criminals or wrong doing, it’s not being brave, it’s called being professional. And for that she should be congratulated as she is definitely in a minority of RCIPS officers that could be considered the same.
Job well done!
Brilliant- in the times of the Trump it is fantastic to read of a woman police officer kicking aggressive male butt. Well done officer!
Great job, very proud of you!
Ditto. To this brave female police officer, we are proud of you. Thanks for representing!
I am woman, hear me roar!
You go girl….show ’em how it down!!! Well done you, keep up the excellent work….you are the type of officer that’s needed in the RCIP.
It’s wonderful to hear something good about the RCIP.
This is when we need a thumbs up!
GO GIRL! GIRL POWER! MORE WOMEN COPPERS!
And yet you still want a law to protect the ‘modesty of a woman’ LOL
Starsky & Hutch on the loose! Book’em Dano!
Book’em Dano! Is from Hawaii 5-O
you are correct…its the renewed era of….”Police Woman”
i useto get that one from the tape club too. That with Cannon, Beretta, Kojak, Magnum PI…nothing like the 70’s Detective Shows. It was amazing how they could solve a case in hour.
Cagney and Lacey perhaps?
More officers would be able to do this if their BMIs weren’t so high. Good job, lady.
Is he a George Towner or just residing in George Town ?
Scum is scum no matter what other label you conveniently apply to ease your bigoted mind.
Good going, rookie.
The commanded to stop made me chuckle and then this popped into my head:
‘STOP! In the name of Law
Before you break any more.
Man, man I’m aware of where you go
Each time you leave Foster’s door
I watch you run down the street
Knowing the other law you’ll meet’
Kudos to her
Excellent job!
