Police urge reluctant witnesses to come forward
(CNS): The police are appealing for people who were in the area of Seven Mile Shops in the early hours of Saturday morning and may have information about the murder of Justin Manderson to come forward. Detectives investigating the fatal shooting of the West Bay man believe that there are reluctant witnesses who may be able to help find the killer or killers. Chief Inspector Malcolm Kay, the lead investigator on the case, said his team was following up lines of inquiry but they still need the public’s help.
“We suspect that there were more people in that busy area at that time who may have seen or heard something,” he said. “We’re asking that you come forward and tell us what you saw or heard; it could make all the difference. We know that there are probably people who would rather not be involved, but we need them to contact us nonetheless because this is about helping us ensure the safety of our community.”
Police have confirmed that CCTV in the area was working but they have not revealed what, if any, assistance the footage has provided.
Manderson was gunned down on the sidewalk along the West Bay Road by the shopping plaza in the heart of the 7MB tourist district, just yards from the former Treasure Island resort and site of the new Margaritaville Resort, as well as the Comfort Suites and Marriott Hotel.
Police are currently looking for a man seen leaving the scene, who was described as light-skinned, with hair pulled back in a pony-tail, wearing light blue jean shorts.

Has anyone looked up his Facebook page? He HAD this coming! just saying…
Regardless he is human like yourself. Like others who have died so abruptly. Everybody need check their own first before saying things about people. A bunch of evil ppl. When it happens in your all closet then say that, He had it coming, Just saying….
Yes 941am and you think by going to even more corrupt jurisdictions to hire personel for the sake or excuse of diversity so they can come here and collude with their own is going resolve this serious and increasing criminal problem, Especially when guns and drugs are being imported from those very same jusrisdictions. How does that that work? The truth is we had a viable police force and units which was deliberately dismantle by our ruling power which has create this very dangerous environment we now have but yet its has created great job & financial opportunities for some like you and others.
Shouldn’t the headline read “Police reluctantly urge witnesses to come forward”
Police want witnesses but you have to give somthing to get somthing and what can they offer witnesses other than danger. No protection and if any limited until trial and what nothing. Going up telling the world that you told on them in trouble for the whole court to know. Best case is that they go to jail then their connections get you
It doesnt what your views are of Mr. Manderson, the concerning fact is that we have a killer amongst who has killed ALREADY and will kill again, hence they need to remove him from the streets.
You’re completely delusional aren’t you; Manderson was a killer himself!
He killed many, and when people tried to testify he threatened their lives; hence why cases were thrown-out!
I have no sympathy for the cold-blooded murderer he was and he will be remembered as such!
When his child grows older, he should be told the truth and not made to believe his “Father” was some angel. After-all if he isn’t told the truth he will believe he needs to avenge his father’s murder some day, and once again the ignorant and ghetto cycle continues.
Truth hurts, certainly; but sugar-coating a harsh reality gets none of us anywhere.
Intimidation of witnesses is something that these boys practice from their school days.
Just a few days ago my high school child (attends Gov high school, oh joy) reported to me about an incident where one child notified a teacher of a student performing a serious offence (brought Appleton to school)… of course the offender was very upset about being reported and consequently suspended and proceeded to send threats to the individual (that he would beat him up etc) that they were absolutely certain had told.
Turns out that the student that the offender was convinced had told on him, was indeed not at all the “informer”… and the actual student who did tell was the least that the offender would have suspected; but this child found it more necessary to bring the student who reported his misdemeanor to the ground crying instead of owning up to the wrongdoing, admitting it was absolutely wrong, accepting their punishment and ensuring never to do it again.
What this is doing within the school system is absolutely terrible because many students fear coming forward to report things/offences that they see other students performing.
This is a culture within our school system and within our community – if this is what “Caymanian Culture” is about, I would say we better investigate and adopt some other culture.
MM you speak of the problem very clearly and it is right down to the school level of the social order in Cayman.
Thank you! Well said.
Regardless of your views and opinions of the deceased the fact is we have a killer on our streets who should be brought to justice and removed from society.
It’s a never ending circle. No one will come forward because they are afraid. Afraid of what? They don’t really know but everyone tells them to be afraid year in year out so they fear the fear itself. The bad folks know this and use the fear as a cloak to hide them. The only way to stop it is to stop being afraid. But I guess that isn’t the way a large section of the community do things. What a sad indictment on society.
To 4:20pm, don’t talk s..t you don’t know what you are talking about. I came forward years ago to the police about gang activity and you know what???? The gangs knew I called the Police and the Police didn’t do a thing. So never will I ever report anything to the police and if you want to stay safe you wouldn’t either because no one will protect you.
Really? Then society is doomed if we all follow your view. That’s the problem with failure to act. It perpetuates the belief that it’s the only course available.
It is easy for you to point fingers and discuss the “failure to act” but when you live amongst trigger happy gang members who know your name and address as well as the children living in your home, you will be more inclined to not ruffle the feathers of those animals who wouldn’t think twice to shed your blood or the blood of those you love. Do you really think police will risk their life to save yours when the police don’t even have the same weapons/resources as these thugs running loose? The police don’t want that type of war.
No, if the police can’t protect the public from these degenerates, people will never feel safe testifying. This is not rocket science but common sense.
So he was acquitted for murder as the witnesses were too scared to testify
Then he gets murdered and his murderer will probably go free for the same reason.
Is that karma?
oh ‘like’ button, where are you?
Ha! I wondered the same thing. How convenient that they removed the like button on such a controversial topic.
CNS: The like button plugin was threatening to crash the site and was therefore removed from all articles, i.e. a technical issue. Regardless, I don’t understand your logic. Why would be remove the buttons because the topic is controversial? Is this your first time on CNS?
Agreed. Karma!
These boys like to live that life; running around killing at will, taking life when they can’t give it back.
I hope that you are right! He murdered an innocent bystander, why should he earn the right to be alive, and I’m not playing God here but c’mon, seriously?
This is just an example on how quick your demons will catch on with you…
And yes, I have children and I have dedicated my life to train them to live among people and that’s a lesson many parents needs…”Raise you children as a person that can live in a civilized society 101″
Sorry but can’t feel no sympathy for this dude!
‘Cause everybody hates a rat. The score is even right now, street justice, garrison justice, ghetto, gang justice or whatever you want to call it has been served. Hope its the end of for this one.
Soo..in “removing” an alleged murderer, did a New Murder become created?
I really hope not…maybe is a matter of a close friend / family member that couldn’t stand the idea of knowing that this beast was at loose, while their loved one is resting in the ground. That idea alone would drive anyone to commit the most heinous crime, don’t you think?
omg so true!!
No, someone did what had to be done before Manderson took another innocent life.
He was in hiding since he shot that young man in West Bay and after everything cooled down he went back out (hence his outing at Nectar in 7 Mile shops); people acted before he could kill again knowing that no-one would testify as they would be too afraid for their own life.
Imagine that a 4 year old child died due to gang violence and to this day no justice has been brought forth for that innocent child. You expected them to successfully convict Manderson???
If we can’t ensure justice for an innocent child, adults have no chance at all….
No one will come forward, and they shouldn’t feel bad either. He had it coming!
right around the corner for you too
Some of us aren’t afraid of standing for what is right and dying for it!
You all better stop acting all bad and try to read some books to educate your ignorant-a$$ selves. You can threaten us all you like, you would be calling for daddy too if you got shot like this one did!
Most of you little punks with your unlicensed fire-arms can’t even hold your own in a fist-fight. Your guns make you feel like a man, because you lack a proper father figure to teach you how to be a real man! Then you turn around and have children while still a child and demand society respects your dead-beat a$$ while you steal and kill innocent people!
“We know there are people that would rather not be involved, but we need them to contact us nonetheless because this is about helping us ensure the safety of our community.”
News Flash! The community is safer now…live by the sword, die by the sword…end of story!!!
Be safer still if the guy that shot him is behind bars as well.
I always says what comes around goes around. He wasn’t a pillar of the community, involved in two murders, sorry one murder, one attempted murder. No great loss
Justice delayed is justice denied In our case unfortunately we keep importing injustice from overseas to work in our law enfocement apparatus!
And you don’t think that Caymanian law enforcers are corrupt either I suppose. You poor deluded fool.
Maybe a anti-crime rally will convince them out of the closet?
So sad, another young life taken as a result of gun violence. 7 Mile Shops require enhanced lighting in the parking lot to deter criminal activity. Despite a report of attempted murder on 17 Sept. ( shots fired in the parking lot) the nightclub located in this shopping complex received an extension to its opening hours on Sunday 2 October. Additionally, if in the opinion of the Acting Police Commissioner there is reasonable apprehension of an outbreak of public disorder, he may order the licensed premises to be and remain closed until further order.
No matter what he is still a human being and someones child the time you all sit down and point fingers at this young man death and rejoicing over that he is dead you all need to go and look in any closet first and take the cob Webb out of it because if any do have children they might be doing worse might be the one that kill this young man but the time has not cone for any as yet until it hit any home. He who knows it feels it. Stop pointing fingers because three is pointing right back at you all. Get a life and make sure any house whole is clean and in order first before any start talking negative things.
You do realise he was aquitted for the murder of someone’s brother last year right? Might I add that the young man he murdered was an INNOCENT! With that said, he simply got what was coming to him after all the crimes he’s commited over the years….you live by the sword, you die by the sword. And while I understand that a family has suffered a loss, perhaps if they’d done their best to raise him right and punish him when he was wrong rather than coddling him, he would be alive today. As well as the young man he murdered last year.
I for one do not condone gangs and their behaviour, (even if someone in a gang were related to me, I would not approve, and they would have to face the consequences of their behaviour, in hopes that the consequences would be doing time and not worse) they need to be punished and shown that what they are doing is wrong!
That’s all I have to say.
What do u know about his family, shut your mouth. Will till ur day come u idiot.
Stop the name calling…if you were close to this killer, which I suspect you are, you should know that he had it coming!
I won’t point fingers at the family because I really don’t know who they are and, some times monsters come from good families, so its not always the family’s fault.
I call it poetic justice!!! Go grief in peace, and stay away from this website, because we have the right to express ourselves and we’ll do just that; I bet you wasn’t this upset when he got acquainted for a crime we all knew he commited.
The family of his victim can at least feel some closure, or I hope they do!!!
100% agree with you Peter; couldn’t have said it better!
Full stops use them or people don’t know what you’re talking about so use them well
Commas too! They are quite handy.
He who smells it dealt it.
Are there any cash reward? the way things hard in Cayman right now some people would give info for $1000.00,a $50,000.00 cash reward would probably have everyone who was in the vicinity at the time calling in.
Since when is anyone willing to pay for the truth? Not going to happen here.
No trust in the police because they offer no form of protection so why put ur life at risk they should be looking into his missing property for clues
Witness intimidation by a certain culture is out of control. We need to celebrate these differences and enjoy the diversity.
People will not say anything because of his history
I suspect that any witnesses probably feel that justice has been served, no matter how misguided one may believe that reasoning to be, and, therefore, it’s unlikely that anyone will be coming forward to tell what they saw.
