Two women to battle for UK’s leadership job
(CNS): Following a second ballot of Conservative MPs in the United Kingdom on Thursday in the battle for Number 10 Downing Street, it became clear that the next British Prime Minister will be a woman. With just three candidates left in the race triggered by David Cameron’s resignation, Michael Gove, a prominent ‘Leave’ campaigners was knocked out after polling just 46 votes. The favourite, Home Secretary Theresa May (59), and the lesser known Andrea Leadsom (53), the energy and climate change minister, are the last two standing.
Both women will now campaign among the wider Tory party membership of around 150,000 people, who will then vote for one of them to become the party leader and by default the British Prime Minister since the Conservatives hold the majority in the House of Commons. The outcome is expected on 9 September.
May, who polled 199 votes in the final ballot round, has many more years of experience in Cabinet than her rival and is well liked in the party. She campaigned to remain in the EU but has said she is committed to ensuring the best deal for UK’s exit from the union.
Leadsom who has far less political experience, having spent most of her career in the City, is on the right of the party and voted to exit the Union. She polled 84 votes to secure her place in the party-wide fight.

England could use a politician granny in iron heels right about now.
So could Cayman. We haven’t done well in the last 30 years or more with bus drivers, failed business men and not very good ex civil servants who we keep electing.
Gender baiting to title it as “women” -grow up. Nobody cares anymore in the 21st century your race or gender when considering position. Another diversion from the real problem of income gaps that involves all races and gender preferences.
Although Andrea Loathsome is perfectly happy to play the “I’m better because I have kids” card. She is a train wreck who only is liked by the sort of prejudiced Tory that brought about the disaster that was the Brexit vote.
But other people believe it was ignorant uneducated Labour voters who brought about the Brexit vote, 6:59. Both are probably wrong.
Of course leaving the EU was too complicated an issue to be reduced to such a reductive process as a plebiscite. The lower class English’s dislike of foreigners was what won the vote for the Leavers.
And the middle classes dislike for democracy, freedom of speech and for anyone whose not blonde and can bring up their kids without a ‘helper’.
Only an ignorant fool detached from the reality of life outside of their suburban bubble would make such a stupidly naive statement. With the exception of London, the rest of England, (and I don’t include the tree huggers and weirdos of Brighton) voted overwhelmingly in favour of Brexit. Many places far exceeded the gross percentage total of final count, so stop believing your own dribble and get in touch with the reality.
The issues were beyond those with an IQ below 120.
You mad people will end up killing each other.
These posters in Cayman abusing Brexiteers cannot change 1:57, any more than the wealthy luvvies in the UK who have never seen an immigrant in their upmarket areas can. An immigrant here to the Yacht Club, Vista Del Mar, Waters Edge bunch equals the smiling docile Jamaicans, and Filipinos who cook, clean and do their yards and bring up their children. It’s not Wolverhampton or Rotherham although some of these nouveau riche may have started off in these places with little or nothing then BINGO they become millionaires in Cayman.
Surely it would be “these nouveaux riches”? That is sort of thing that is the difference between those that escape the grim sticks and those that fester there and voted Leave.
Well Theresa will be the next PM. New chapter at #10!
