Cuban Migrants reach Grand Cayman, 22 July 2016

(CNS): Seven Cuban men passed through local waters on Friday but opted to continue the perilous ocean journey in a very small cramped makeshift vessel.  The group of men arrived in East End in the morning, where they were by local authorities. However, they opted not to land and to press on.  According to officials, over the last week 71 Cuban migrants on five boats have passed through Cayman waters, with 26 of them landing, as the surge of migration from the neighbouring island continues.

There are now 84 Cubans in immigration custody at the detention centre in Fairbanks, which has been expanded to accommodate the flow of people and avoid the need to use the ill-suited civic centres to house the Cubans.
