crime scene generic(CNS): A man was threatened and kicked during a street robbery on the West Bay Road early Tuesday morning in which the villains made off with his wallet. Police said the mugging happened at around 1:20 this morning as the man was walking along the West Bay Road towards Raleigh Quay after leaving Calico Jack’s bar near Public Beach. A car pulled up alongside him and a man sitting in the back dressed all in black and armed with a knife jumped out.

Wearing a black scarf over his face, the passenger from the car threatened and kicked the victim about his body as he demanded the man’s wallet. The victim threw his wallet out of his pocket and the mugger grabbed it and got back into the car, which sped off in the direction of West Bay driven by the second suspect. There were no details from the RCIPS about the type of car or a description of the driver.

The victim was treated at the George Town hospital for minor injuries and released.

Police are now urging anyone with information to call George Town CID at 949-4222 or the Miami-based call centre of Crime Stoppers at 800-8477 (TIPS).

@ Anonymous 24/ 02/2017 4:05 pm , I agree with your comment that the safety issue should be posted at the Airport along with the phone number for the taxi service, and the taxi and bus drivers should be too happy to participate in the program at a special rate, and they get a special credit back from government in return.

If this crime issue is not taken care of now there would be no tourism left for no one .

It’s a wonder this got to the media. Sad how many incidents happen like this but are not reported or fall on deaf ears. No sense in covering these muggings up just so as to not scare away tourists. Seems a person is about as safe walking around in Cayman as in a bad, continental inner city area. Welcome to the jungle!

You’d think that by now most people know that walking down the street alone late at night is not safe even in Cayman these days. I do wonder why he was walking down that way at 1 Am in the morning, not saying it was his fault or that anything justified what happened to him.

It may be time to consider warnings for visitors to Cayman regarding all this instead of putting Caymans Image of complete safety before the well being of those that visit it’s shores because I think a lot of people come here with a false sense of security do to all the safe harbor fantasies that are spread about Cayman. If this false image of complete safely is continued without properly warning visitors of the dangers things like this will only escalate since people will be caught off guard. If this young man had read a warning posted at the airport it’s a good chance he may have reconsidered taking that walk .

Look at how the intensity of the violence in these attacks is escalating. People have been happy with the news that no one was hurt or no shots were fired so they’ve gotten complasent, but now we see old men in their 70’s getting punched in the face for a few dollars and mobile phone, people getting their arms broken during mugging on the street and brazen armed robberies at Camana Bay which boasted to be the safest place on the island. I think the problem is that the CIG and the RCIPS actually believe all this Safe Haven Crap because it’s not as dangerous as it is in a lot of other places to be a law officer.

At this stage of the game it’s the RCIPS, the CIG as well as everyone else here that’s on the losing end of this. The bad guys are winning this fight..

It’s time to take it up a notch before it’s to late. Cayman needs people in charge of public safety that would make people considering committing crimes think twice, Cayman need lions protecting it’s neck not sheep..

Maybe the tourist was staying up by Holiday Inn and thought it was safe to walk back? I used to walk back from clubs all the time on the 7MB strip a few years back (tourist) as I don’t want to d.u.i. and thought the air temps were beautiful and island was safe. Wouldn’t think of doing that now (older, smarter, more knowledge re. island), but I can see how someone would do it. This is not meant as a negative to GC, just an answer to why someone would do it. People do not hear about crime re. GC so why would they be cautious?

Well I believe that part of the big plan is to assist cayman in Laing the investors and tourist. So the plan is at maturity, Baines is useless yet they still won’t fire him.

What says the government on the million dollar CCTVs? What happened to our money? We’re we robbed by the security company? What’s says ye Mr. Bush? Answers please.

5:36 your comment – does that mean the parking lot or out into the street? As a tourist, I would have thought nothing about leaving there and walking to my car alone. Travel to Cayman 2-3 x a year- is this something I should be re-thinking?

Why is Governors harbour never mentioned and only Raleigh Quay?

Leaving Calico toward the west bay road by pass you are not on Raleigh Quay. When there was a robbery at Olivia’s cove the entrance would have been through Prince Charles Quay into the complex.

Come on police. Just because Baines lives on Raleigh Quay and you know the name it isn’t the only quay along the WB road by pass!!

The road that runs parallel to that road in Govermors Hatbour is Peninsula Avenue.

Fed up with Raleigh getting all the bad publicity!!!

Where exactly did this robbery actually happen?? Get a map and tell us please.

  14. Anonymous says:

Never leave Calico’s on your own…call a cab or go with at least one other person, preferably more

  15. Just Sensible! says:

How about a proper description of the suspects! Was he of white or dark complexion? Did he speak? If so, what nationality. What Height? Hair color? What was the make, model and color of the vehicle the suspects drove? These are all very important pieces of information that would help the community assist the Police piece this puzzle together.
