Cayman Islands Department of Immigration, George Town

(CNS): The RCIPS Financial Crimes Unit is issuing another warning to the public about scammers offering to take on permanent residency applications for a fee. Police said that despite repeated warnings that permanent residency can only be obtained by fulfilling all procedures as required under law, people are still soliciting those seeking residency and charging fees to expedite this process through personal contacts or extra-legal means.

The scammers are fraudulently purporting to represent the government or Immigration Department. Anyone who is approached by the con artists are asked to call the FCU at 949-8797, contact the unit via email RCIPS.FCU@gov.ky, or call Crime Stoppers at 800-8477(TIPS).

And I thought gambling was illegal here, how can that be when applying for PR through normal channels is nothing more than a lottery?

  2. Anonymous says:

I thought the official PR was a scam? So we now got scammers scamming a scam? So confusing…

Can the police please investigate a similar scam from a decade ago where persons coveting favor were promising Cayman Status to people through extra legal means? I understand some people actually got given status as a result, although no sound reason why has been established for many.

How is that festering resentment working out for you?

I do not understand your comment. I am simply asking that a possible crime be investigated. Are you suggesting possible serious crimes which cause extreme harm and damage to society should not be?

        • Anonymous says:

Are you this dull in real life too?

          • Anonymous says:

Nope. Just seriously pissed off at the social and economic damage wrought by what may have been an act of corruption, and astounded by the hypocrisy of the Police who have failed to do anything about it despite widespread allegations of special favors to get on the list. Do you care as little about Cayman in real life?

            • Anonymous says:

History. Let it go. The local attorneys’ association threatened a challenge, no doubt out of protectionist interests (all they seem to care about), and even they backed down. So stop your flaming and move on.

Go the police and file a complaint then. You have specific evidence or are you just fanning flames online?

The people trying to get residence illegally are just as guilty as the scammers and need to be immediately kicked the hell out of the country for it is they who are a part and a parcel of furthering corruption in the Cayman Islands and they do not deserve to be on these shores in the first place because of that.

Two of the worst PR scams are having to buy an over-priced property to get the thing and then being forced to pay illegal equivalence fees afterwards.

  6. Anonymous says:

What about the Govt taking fees and deposits in respect of PR applications that never get heard ? That’s kind of a scam too.

Since nothing effectively ever happens to the scammers (or their customers, all of whom are committing or attempting to commit serious criminal offenses) what do you expect?
