First hurricane of season degenerates before reaching Caribbean

NHC satellite map of area(CNS): Hurricane Danny, which had reached a category three hurricane at one point over the Atlantic, degenerated into a low pressure trough on Monday morning some 45 miles off the coast of Guadeloupe. The National Hurricane Center said the remnants of the hurricane, the first one of the 2015 season, were expected to bring up to four inches of rain over the Leeward Islands, the US and British Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic through Tuesday night, before the weather system breaks up.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Erica emerged some 850 miles east of the Leeward Islands early Tuesday. With 45mph winds the storm is moving west at 20mph and some strengthening is expected but Erica poses no threat to the Cayman area. A tropical wave with disorganised thunderstorms off the coast of Cape Verde was given a 10% chance of becoming a storm.

Here in Cayman, the local weather service predicted more hot weather and isolated showers over the next week. So far this year Cayman has received almost six inches less rain than the average year in what is shaping up to be a localized drought within a wider problem across the region.

Weather forecasters were still hopeful that Danny would bring some much needed rain to the Caribbean, as several countries, including Jamaica, Puerto Rico Cuba and St Lucia, have introduced water rationing in what is shaping up to be the worst drought in the region for five years.

Last month was also recorded by the US National Ocean and Atmosphere Agency as the hottest July on record. All around the world the average temperature for the month was 1.46°F above the 20th Century average. Global data has been collected since 1880, and the average monthly temperature worldwide for July was 61.86°F, which slightly edged out the prior record set in 1998 by 0.14°F.

Mother Nature has nothing to do with God…..God is something humanity has created out of fear of the unknown and the reality of death. Mother Nature or nature is very real and it does as it pleases with no regard to anything. We are dry because of a very strong El Niño.

My kind 8.17? You know nothing of my kind. Just to be clear comment was in jest at the current goings on on other issues. In general I have an incredibly healthy respect for mother nature and her ability to do totally the unexpected and cause misery to milliions. And every time we paray not to get hit by a storm, it generally means some poor buggers in another place will get hit, so that is not the best prayer either!

Now that is what we call a perfect storm; furious at sea and only. Rain and slight. Wind over land.

Ex-pat hurricane too, coming here, taking jobs from hard working Caymanian weather systems. Alden, do something about it.

Where on earth is the Human Rights Commission on this issue? No doubt off promoting human rights and ignoring matters over which they have no constitutional remit or control. Disgraceful. The god fearing public demands an apology from the Chairman.

Danny was a transgender hurricane and decided that she wouldn’t feel loved in Cayman. Erica? He’s off to Florida.
