George Town water loss down to double leak
(CNS): The Water Authority was battling two separate leaks on North Sound Road Sunday, which cut the water supply to many homes in the capital and reduced the pressure for many others for a large part of the day. Officials from the government-owned company said the first leak was reported around 8am yesterday (24 May) but as it was being repaired the Red Gate Road Water Works facility shut down as a safety precaution.
“This safety shutdown resulted in service outages and low water pressure to residents in the district of George Town. Once the leak was fixed, water service was subsequently restored to all affected customers,” officials said.
“Unfortunately, later in the day another leak was discovered in the vicinity of the previous leak, and water service to residents of George Town was again affected because of a safety shutdown at the Red Gate Water Works. Water service was subsequently restored to all affected customers shortly before 3:00pm,” the authority added in a release explaining the water cut Monday.
The Water Authority said it is reviewing the situation that led to the cuts and the double leaks internally as it offered its apologies to its customers for the interruption to supply.
Alerts on outages are posted on the homepage of the Water Authority website, as well as on its Twitter account. To report an emergency after-hours, please call 946-HELP (946-4357).
