(CNS): A female jogger was sexually assaulted by a man on a bicycle Tuesday morning and police are asking women in West Bay who are out exercising or walking to work early in the morning to be on their guard and to report any incidents to the RCIPS.

Police believe other women could be at risk from the sexually motivated attacker, who was of slim build, with a dark complexion, dressed in dark clothing and wearing a tam. The bicycle is described as a men’s frame bicycle.

“Single females, either exercising, walking, jogging or helpers walking to work in the early hours are subjected to this behavior,” the police warned, though they reported details of only one incident.

Police said that one victim reported that at around 6:50am Tuesday 12 May, as she was jogging along Birch Tree Hill Road, she was approached by the man who assaulted her indecently from behind by touching her while riding his bicycle.

Detective Sergeant Dave Morrison of West Bay – CID advised all woman out and about during the early morning hours for whatever reason to be accompanied where possible and always be aware of their surroundings.

Anyone who has been approached in such circumstances or anyone with any information is asked to come forward and contact the police at the West Bay Police Station at 949-3999 or Cayman Crime stoppers at 800-8477(TIPS.

I hope they catch this subhuman piece of trash, and my sincere condolences to this victim. But, why, oh why, do we have to pretend to be faux British in our news reports? The suspect was wearing a ‘Tam’? Really a plaid, flat topped, 70’s style hat with a red pompom on top? Just report the news accuractly, it will go a much longer way to catching these scumbags if we don’t have to be on the lookout for Ted Knight.

A plaid, flat topped, 70’s style hat with a red pompom on top is called a Tam. What else would you like it to be called?

I like how the Police are busy “warning” instead of being proactive and trying to stop the perv! Put an undercover female in the area and watch her like a hawk. Duh?! Come on Cayman Police, get creative already Jeez!

woman should be allowed to carry pepper spray with them for these type of things.

Same thing happened to me within site of the police station at 6 am last fall, only he was on foot. Slim build guy. I chased him with my water bottle till he ran up a site street.

Didn’t’ report it as I didn’t expect the police to take it seriously.

This really funny that the police can know where and when crimes are happening , but no police present in the where and when the crimes are happening , but can continue to ask for public help on all investigations .

You seriously cannot expect the police to line the streets!

      • Cass says:

Not line them, but SOME form of a presence on the roads would be re-assuring. I don’t see any really at all on the roads. Only specific times of year when they are ordered to go out and ticket speeders, and people who don’t have a valid sticker. This is not rocket science folks we have a HUGE police force here, but no real presence on island. Question is: what do we really have them for?

Confused here…….. article states…….”A female jogger was sexually assaulted by a man on a bicycle Tuesday morning”…….. but then further down in the details it states………….”she was approached by the man who assaulted her indecently from behind by touching her while riding his bicycle”

Either way this is scary but “sexually assaulted” means that force without consent has taken place. So was there another attack other than the one that is stated in this article??
    Please advise.

Ladies take note and please be careful! Be aware of your surroundings and if possible don’t go out alone!!

Groping someone from behind is sexual assault. It’s not rape, but it is unwanted sexual contact. Which is the definition of sexual assault.

Thats it, I am outta here.

Women- get yourself a personal alarm. Pull the pin and scare the &%$# out him when he tries to attack you and the alarm will also be heard by others. It is nothing like a car alarm so it can not be confused by such.

  9. Panwix says:

    What is a Tam?

  10. Anonymous says:

That is why we need a cop on every corner of the street.

And mandatory life in jail for sex offenders.

you do know there are more street corners than people in Cayman, who is going to pay for the extra 50,000 police to stand on every street corner in Cayman everyday all day and all night?
