Further arrests in Yates killing
(CNS): The police have arrested two more people in connection with the murder of Victor Oliver Yates in West Bay during the early morning hours of 3 January outside a local bar and restaurant. The RCIPS said that at around 3:00pm Tuesday 10 February a 29-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, both from West Bay, were arrested on suspicion of accessory after the fact to the murder of Yates.
Yates (22), also from West Bay, was shot in the head outside Super C’s on Watercourse Road. Justin Manderson, also 22, was charged with his murder last week and is due in Grand Court this Friday.
Meanwhile, police say they have released a 25-year-old West Bay man who was arrested on Friday in connection with the murder of David Ebanks. This suspect has been bailed to return to George Town Police Station at a later date but no charges have yet been brought.
Police said that there were a significant number of witnesses to the killing last month at a local jerk food stand on Birch Tree Hill Road. Ebanks (20), whose step-father is a serving police officer, was gunned down on 23 January by Undra’s jerk chicken stand close to Kelly’s Bar in the heart of West Bay.
It is believed that he was not the killer’s target and that the intended victim was an active gang member who was standing close to the food stand. He is thought to have been injured but did not report being hit to the authorities. Two stray bullets also hit a house close to the area as the gunman opened fire. Although a number of people have told the police that they know who was involved in the killing, officers on the case are still struggling to find witnesses willing to testify on the record and go to court.
