(CNS): The opposition leader has said that he is keeping his promise not to do what the members of the current administration did to him when he was premier and undermine its leadership but the government was self-destructing on its own. McKeeva Bush said the PPM government was indifferent to the problems suffered by the people and ineffective in finding solutions.

Claiming that most of the projects government is depending on to turn the economy around and address unemployment started during his time as the country’s leader, he said they were all criticised by the PPM when they were in opposition. But in Bush’s New Year’s message to the country (see below) he said that now, “like the proverbial dog goes back to his vomit”, the government was claiming the projects for itself.

Despite his claims to be restraining himself from attacking the government, he criticized it for targeting a huge budget surplus when the people were suffering. He also accused the current administration and its allies of “dastardly deeds” when, he claimed, they helped the governor to stop his work, in reference to his arrest and subsequent acquittal over the credit card scandal and other allegations.

Stating that his concern was for the suffering of all the people, he listed what he believed the government had done to him when he was in opposition. Aside from fueling the investigations against him over the gambling and credit card use and other allegations, he said the present government and their allies had done everything possible when they were in opposition to stop him from getting the projects he had promised completed.

“Under my administration, if given support by the opposition rather than false accusations and disruption, by now our airport problems would have been solved, our cruise facility and the Turtle Farm’s need for more visitors would have been settled as well,” he added.

But instead, the opposition leader said, there was more unemployment, more need and more people losing their businesses and homes.

Bush’s New Year’s message makes it clear that, despite the rough ride he has had recently, he is by no means finished in the political arena and intends to press on. Even though he said he will “not be a stumbling block”, he said government needed to stop dreaming and blaming, stop the nepotism and cronyism and, in a reference to the former health minister’s recent controversial outburst, to stop shouting and cursing. He added that government needed to get to work using a common sense approach that will make a difference in the lives of the people.

“Difficult decisions need to be made, new industries started, be it in the technology area or other developmental sectors. I really don’t believe that all the expensive consultants’ contracted from the outside or inside is going to solve any of the problems affecting us,” the opposition leader said, adding that he was looking forward in 2015 but did not know what would befall the country.

C4c are not a political party, they are a pressure group so they actually don’t have to do anything. Yes PPM Are a shower of incompetents and they appear not to mind having the likes of Julianna as the speaker of the house despite the stench following her, permitting Ozzie to stay in government, pushing a C4C agenda in education with absolutely no knowledge of the subject, but please do not paint Bush as a victim here. He is living like a king presiding over a fiefdom and gaining handsomely from the proceeds. Also let us not forget that Bush is the man who needs a written policy to know what is right and wrong.

The reason Bush got relatively little done when he was last in power was because he tried breaking due process to railroad-through his own, ill-devised and secretive deals. Of course the opposition did everything they could to stop him and discredit him, have we forgotten the furore in the press every time he tried something? Because it always stunk to high heaven! Even his own party eventually had to mutiny. He never offered issues for debate or public input (unless forced to), he never even discussed matters with his own cabinet. He met foreign companies in secret and then announced a deal, then acted surprised and hurt if he couldn’t push it through. In my opinion, anything he says could be a truth or a lie – he says things purely as a politician and self-server. I doubt he can tell the difference any more anyway. Face it Cayman, the man has proven himself to be utterly untrustworthy. Just because PPM are pretty rubbish, doesn’t change anything about this man. So don’t defend him.

Sorry but I beg to differ on that. He has always been a common sense kind of man who has good ideas and the drive to see them to fruition like the Shetty Hospital, Enterprise City, putting his support behind Camana Bay and the Ritz. We wouldn’t even be able to attract the high net worth people without the Ritz! As for education, please, there are a bunch of clueless people with law degrees around here and Mr. Bush runs circles around them. That is where those who claim to be educated underestimate him and that is why they hate him, particularly those who think they are from Cayman’s ‘aristocracy’.

That common sense kind of guy was the Leader of a government that saw the public purse as their own. He was not worrying about the misappropriation of funds when he was sitting at the slot machines in Miami using a government credit card nor was he worrying about his constituents who had not food to put in their mouths or electricity bills unpaid. So do me a favor and face up to the reality of this man in particular and most MLA members. it is weird of you to assume its ok that your taxes can be at the disposal of politicians for their personal use whilst some of our poorest people are begging down at Social Services for food vouchers.

Anything this man says must be moderated by the knowledge of what went on during his reign and his trips to Miami. Both the PPM and the UDP are disgraceful.

This rant indicates that both the UDP (or whatever they call themselves these days) and the PPM are unacceptable.
Voters, spoil your ballots in the next election by writing in “None of the above”.

  6. Bernie says:

Can anybody say whether they took away that credit card?
