Dear Mr/Mrs [MLA name] and Mr Roper (cc’d),

I write to you, as the elected representative of [electoral district] and as my representative in the Legislative Assembly. I am deeply distressed to hear about the assault by a public official of a member of the public, and a staff member working in a business possibly owned by the alleged assailant.

This is absolutely unacceptable behaviour for any member of the public, let alone a public figure, or someone’s boss.

I am extremely concerned about:

1. The reaction by the police, who seem not to have arrested the person at the scene of the crime.

2. For reasons unclear, but only appears to be undue influence, the police were directed to amend an original statement.

3. The representatives in the LA staying mute on this significant issue which effectively condones this type of behaviour in our society.

Answers need to be given to the public.

This is a frightening example to be set to the citizens of our country. Violence in any form is unacceptable and if citizens can not trust the police to apprehend the offender, nor any political leaders condemn the behaviour then I truly grieve the Islands time no longer forgot.

I do hope you give the public, especially the women of this country, the respect they deserve and issue a public statement condemning this behaviour, and ensuring equal treatment for all of those who commit crimes, regardless of their political or financial position.

Further, if the assailant is revealed to be the speaker of the House, his conduct on social media berating and insulting the public, including me, is also absolutely unacceptable and not in keeping with the position of an elected official, especially the speaker of the house.

Thank you for your time.

Kind Regards,
