Bishop to speak on religion and homosexuality
(CNS): The Right Reverend Dr Alan Wilson will be one of the key speakers at a free conference this summer focusing on lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender issues, where he will speak on the topic of religion and homosexuality. Professor Emeritus Eugenio Raúl Zaffaroni, Justice of the Inter American Court of Human Rights, will address the conference on the decriminalisation of homosexuality.
The 7th Queering Paradigms Conference (QP) is being organised by a group of Cayman Islands residents and lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex, queer (LGBTIQ+) activists, under the sponsorship of Canterbury Christ Church University (UK).
Dr Wilson is the author of a book, More Perfect Union? Understanding Same-sex Marriage, in which he offers a Biblical argument for same-sex marriage and challenges the Church’s “serious institutional homophobia”, suggesting that one in ten Church of England bishops could be secretly gay.
This year’s conference follows a series of free public lectures on sexual equality last summer hosted by the Students Society of the Truman Bodden Law School, which generated significant controversy and led to veteran MLA Anthony Eden making a startling speech in the Legislative Assembly in which he derided the rights of the LGBT community.
Last November Eden resigned from the PPM and joined the independents on the opposition benches after the government announced its position to allow gay spouses as dependents of people on work permits. This was in reaction to a legal challenge by a former professor from the law school Dr Leonardo Raznovich and his husband after he was denied the right to remain in the Cayman Islands as a dependent.
The Queering Paradigms Conference will take place 11-12 June at the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort.
“After highly successful incarnations of QP in South America (2012, Rio de Janeiro; 2014 Quito) Queering Paradigms return to the Americas, for the first time taking place in the Caribbean Region,” organisers said. “The particular aim of QP7 is to challenge Queer/LGBTIQ+ discrimination and to provide intellectual tools for empowerment of both academics and activists on the Cayman Islands and the wider Caribbean region.”
In a call for papers, organisers said they were looking for papers with both local and regional relevance and more general applied queer studies contribution under the themes: religion and faith; law, human rights and equality; HIV, health, mental health; sex work, abuse and trafficking; family and kinships; race, ethnicity and Caribbean Identities; activism, political participation and leadership; art and culture. (See more details here)
There is no charge for attending the conference, so to cover the necessary costs, the organisers are hosting a fundraising dinner at ICOA on 28 April. Tickets are available at the price of $100CI/person. The dinner will begin at 7:00pm and the guest of honour will be Governor Helen Kilpatrick.

How to you prove this god you claim exists before we listen to anything you have to say about his laws in general.
People who reject or try to discredit the scriptures do not seem to realize that they are only proving the authenticity of it. 2 Peter 3:3-4 says “Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying , Where is the promise of his coming?” The next eleven verses elaborates on that subject
. Meanwhile Hebrews 10:29-31 tells the consequences for rejecting and ignoring God and His word..
Bootstraps?
I would imagine that every cult has a similar message in the manifesto doesn’t it?
Probably not one quite so inane, needy and transparent.
How insane are the religious people here? Just go on comment boards under articles like this and you will see. These “church folk” need Jesus in their life. After some of them go home and beat their wife or sexually abuse their children they jump online and tell the rest of us we are damned. The others go home to jump online after a visit to their mistress. The wife is quite about this behavior because the bible will help her cope with her husband who is just being a man.
I see where you’re coming from but your accusations are kind of vague and unsubstaciated
Bishop John Shelby Spong writes in great detail about the homosexuality issue as well as the anti women’s issue in much of Christianity. It was Paul after the death of Jesus who wrote much of this add on into Christianity. It has been postulated that Paul himself struggled with homosexuality and much of his extreme writing on the subject was a result.
For thinking Christians who struggle with the more extreme tenets found within the religion I recommend Spong.
Well guess this topic is related to human rights, so our legal system but this article has more interest than an article on questions regarding the judiciary, wonder why?
Leberalism is the AIDS of the mind and soul.
Spelling will be the death of Cayman.
The death of cayman will be the birth of The United Islands of Dart.
And AIDS is very close to being defeated.
You know, as you are typing there is this little red line that forms under words that are not spelled correctly. It helps you to avoid looking like an uneducated fool when you are posting your bigoted comments.
My Dad is now my Mam. Should I hate her, pray for her or continue to love the person that was a wonderful father and role model including having the courage to face up to who he really was?
Please, please, let the new CoP be gay but not let anyone know until he’s ready to put silly boys like Anthony and Alva in their place.
“7th Queering Paradigms Conference”?? Say wha’? This sounds like the title of a Monty Python sketch alongside “The Ministry of Silly Walks” and “Hell’s Grannies”. The world has gone barking mad.
Stone him! Stone him!
Nobody is to stone anybody until i blow this whistle. Even if they do say “queering paradigms”.
Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. John 18:36
Christians shouldn’t be worried about end time Bible prophecies coming to pass nor can they stop them from coming to pass. If a church is worried about having to hire a homosexual to be a part of the church team, then cancel the license to operate as a church and go home and have a home church. The time will come when to follow and obey God the churches who stay true to God and not sell out their soul will have to “go underground” (home church). The ones who remain operating on a Gov license will have to betray God to do so.
Also when the One World Order system goes into effect the only way for anyone to buy or sell (make financial transactions) they will have to have implanted in their forehead or hand a computer chip with their id and financial info, bank account, etc (called the Mark of the Beast in the Book of Revelation in the last 3 1/2 years of the Great Tribulation), any Church still remaining on Gov licenses will be the false churches, not the true churches, the true churches will be hidden just like it was in the first couple Centuries after Jesus came to Earth, and just like it is always in many other countries where Christians are persecuted every day for their faith in Jesus.
And as the Bible also says anyone who takes the Mark of the Beast will be rejected from the Kingdom of God permanently and eternally. That’s why in the Book of Revelation in Jesus’s 7 Letters to the Churches, it’s mentioned many times “he who has an ear let them hear what the Spirit of the Lord is saying” and “to he who OVERCOMES” will dwell with the Lord in his eternal glorious Kingdom in his riches and glory.
Beware Christians, the time is soon coming when you can no longer buy or sell or make financial transactions, you will have to live by faith and trade goods or services in exchange to others and get paid in goods or services from others. The World will be cashless, no more cash. No credit cards either, just computer chips with all the id and bank info implanted in the hand or forehead. These chips will have GPS tracking as well, anyone can be tracked by Governments. The Bible forewarned of all these things to happen. The One World Order system will make a statue for all to bow down and worship and all those who do not bow down and worship that statue will be seeked out to be killed. Many Christians will be martyred because of not bowing down and worshipping the statue.
*Read Revelation Chapter 13 to read about all of that. (The 7 Letters to the Churches are in Revelation Chapters 2 & 3)
THE WORLD HATES GOD
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. Matthew 6:24
The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you. John 15:19
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people to be his very own and to proclaim the wonderful deeds of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9
You adulterers! Don’t you know that friendship with the world means hostility with God? So whoever wants to be a friend of this world is an enemy of God. James 4:4
If the world hates you, remember that it hated me first. John 15:18
And all nations will hate you because you are my followers. But everyone who endures to the end will be saved. Matthew 10:22
Whose Kingdom do you choose? Time is running out to choose, the end time prophecies are coming to pass quickly now, choose whom you will serve, man or God? the world or God? money or God?
This Mark of the Beast sounds hot. Where does he hang out because I so want to take him.
I wish i had your job, so i would have the time to reply to your bs.
There’s a thin line between religious fervor and complete insanity.
No there isn’t.
Just as God protected Noah, when God destroyed the world and its wicked people with a flood, He will protect His children when He reveals wrath upon the wicked world. See 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18.
So I should be okay then
That would be the active alcoholic Noah who beat his son for challenging him about his drink problem.
Oh dear……gather up your animals as here comes the flood!
I’m giving you a ‘dislike’ for the length of your comment. I dislike how long it is. I will remain neutral on my opinion of the content until I read through it all. Which I probably won’t do so…. I say: neutral
Annnnddd!
Caymanians 40 and younger did not give a Sh!t today. No one cares if you are gay. What people do not appreciate is the forcing of the lifestyle on everyone else. Cayman has always had gay people, recently openly gay people who socialize with without judgement. Why? Because they mind their own business and do their own thing. They do not feel the need to walk down the street with ass chaps and the sorts.
Be gay, be proud and do not force your lifestyle on the community and no one will bother you.
So much I want to say about this. First, you have to actually BELIEVE this BIBLE, and follow its rules. Otherwise, it doesn’t matter what it says. However, if you believe what it says, don’t try to push your beliefs on other people, please. Second, it is time for Cayman to admit that their are many Caymanians, in many families, both prominent and not, who are born gay and have to hide or deny their feelings out of fear of ridicule, persecution and in some cases, death. This is not a new thing. This is NOT liberalism (stop watching Fox news!) it is a fact. Third, don’t try to make Cayman a “Christian” nation. This marginalizes so many of the other outstanding citizens who practice other religions. Cayman is known world wide as a small island nation with a huge impact. I would hate to see us branded as small minded, ignorant and uneducated people blinded by religion and filled with hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
I think I have the right to choose what I believe, rather than you stuffing it down my throat.
Your metaphor reveals either your deepest fear…or fantasy…
Either way, count me in.
Very well said.
I think a lot of people are forgetting that this really isn’t about religion or being homosexual, but very much about being a good person.
There are lovely people in Cayman of all faiths. There are horrible people on this island of all faiths and walks of life.
If you are a nice person, then you should accept someone’s right to love another human whether the same sex or different. Who are we to deny them the right to legally bind their relationship the same way that any other person walking this island is able to do with very little complaint or problem.
I’m not religious, but I pride myself on treating everyone equally. That first and foremost should be everyone else’s prerogative and they should be able to put aside personal feelings when looking at basic human rights.
The Bible applies to everyone whether they believe it or not. God will not ignore people just because they choose to ignore Him. The Bible says: “It is appointed unto men once to die and after that the judgment”
Okay.. but it’s not up to YOU to push the bible on others. If God will deal with it as you say then why do you worry about what others do? Let God handle it. Unless someone comes to you and explicitly asks for help what a person’s sins are or aren’t is between themselves and God and it’s none of your damn business so stop worrying about it and concentrate on being a good person yourself.
-Isme
Have you a reference point other than the Bible. It does seem somewhat circular.
So here I am a non believer. I have spent all my life working tirelessly with the poor, disenfranchised, dispossessed. The work I do I directly related to the belief in human dignity and countries without borders. So I die and according to you God will discount every good I have done because I have failed to understand or believe in his existence. Wow…you God sucks!
So why allow the practice of Judaism, Islam, Hinduism or Buddhism in Cayman? All of these faiths reject Jesus as Messiah. Why should it be legal to live according to wrong beliefs in Cayman?
Sad. The world is watching this. We sound so hateful and 3rd world. Peace, love and understanding, eh?
We now look back at outdated laws such as blacks not being able to use the same washroom, restaurant etc as whites, blacks not allowed to marry whites, women not allowed to vote and the list goes on. One day you backward idiots will realize homophobia and sexual orientation discrimination is just as stupid. Religion and churches brainwashed you which was their intention all along.
Gays have always been allowed to use the same washrooms and gays have always been allowed to marry heterosexuals. Truly think your comment through before posting.
The issue here is they cannot marry each other. The wider issue is how does immigration police true marriages from marriages of convenience of gays without them all crying discrimination. A flood of new people will come through the boarders.
Oh this should be fun to watch!
caymaniana know nothing of true christianity……
because true Christianity does not exist.
Satanic confusion
Another outpouring of hate and bigotry against a group of human beings; such ignorant and selective interpretation of Christianity and the Bible. Still, with views like that you can look forward to someone like Donald Trump as a future leader then you’ll experience discrimination. What happened to tolerance, love and understanding? It’s strange that Cayman doesn’t hold such strong views and intolerance of adultery and avarice, so selective!
Caymankind as long as you are not gay……well……as long as you spend in my shop or business first then I will condemn you to hell and damnation after I have lined my pockets with your “pink dollar”!
This ought to be good for sh!ts and giggles to be honest. I really am interested in seeing how a Pastor can make right something God not only frowns on but wiped a city off the map for.
I mean in it’s initial essence God created Adam and Eve. Eve for Adam from Adam. The precedence was set right there and re-affirmed like 4 or 5 times through the bible.
LBGT or whatever the term is, has been TRYING desperately to twist our minds to gain acceptance. I wonder what else we should turn a blind eye to in the name of making one group who desires to walk outside of God’s wishes seem to be right with God.
I stand firm in my beliefs that we should not change our laws. I am not saying we cast them to hell because only God will truly judge them but to tell a nation to change their laws to accommodate you is to me wrong. If your desire is this lifestyle by all means find a country that equally believes in your way of life.
Adam and Eve is a fable: nothing else.
I actually like the Adam and Steve version.
I think the Adam, Steve, Ken and Eve is better.
Mongolian Cluster Creation Myth.
Someone forgot about my Barbie!
And you know this how? Were you there maybe? Oooh insider source I am guessing….Was it in the Panama papers also?
Your mind is twisted enough already. Adam and Eve? Geeze a break!
Superb post. I too am interested in how this one goes down. Perhaps if we all stamp our feet hard enough God will relent and resurrect Sodom & Gomorrah with a full apology.
I for one have found out the hard way that God always has the last word.
Over the years I have come to appreciate the wisdom of God.
Best wishes to everyone.
I agree. Let’s equalize though and elevate infidelity, premarital sex and divorce from sins to illegal as well.
Let me get this right. God created Adam and Eve and these two people produced children and they effectively had incestuous relationships to produce the next generation. No wonder we have some severely challenged people walking the planet or is incest ok in Christianity.
How about we first see some evidence that this god you speak of exists, then we will consider his views on gay marriage. That said, this conference can only help. Cayman is a beautiful culture with beautiful people but there is a faith-based strain of hate and wilful ignorance that infects us.
There is no proof of God’s existence just as there is no proof he does not exist, that is why it is called FAITH. But, perhaps you would be kind enough to show how sex between two women or two men can reproduce the human race as nature intended?
Do not confuse disagreement with hate, the first words we often hear are bigot and homophobia as if it is some kind of disease. I do not agree with homosexuality, I do not believe it is an ‘orientation’ but that doesn’t make me a bigot or homophobic. I accept my gay friends for who they are and I dont judge them, I simply don’t subscribe to it.
Just because two men cannot produce a child, does not mean that they should not have the right to have babies.
“Just because two men cannot produce a child, does not mean that they should not have the right to have babies.”
WTF…..How crazy is the world today!
So you weren’t physically made to have a child as a man but you want the “right” to have kids and raise them with another man???
You see nothing “odd” about this??? Not even an inkling of a clue do you?
The right to have babies? Where is the foetus going to gestate? Are you going to keep it in a box?
Nature does not intend anything.
The Christians struggle with that sort of thing because their response would require a reliance upon evolutionary principles. Or magic. Plain old bigoted magic.
I agree with your post / position….all except your justifying that “reproduction” as some sort of defence for your position.
Why does everyone need to reproduce? There are already 7 billion + people on the planet earth….many doing far too much reproducing. And many gay people / couples provide loving homes for them too!
How about we just “live and let live” and stop rather than attempting deny other human beings their rights.
@4:57 pm
I’ve been saving the below quote for just the type of comment you’ve made. Thank you, thank you from the bottom.
“Faith is a cop-out. If the only way you can accept an assertion is by faith, then you are conceding that it can’t be taken on its own merits. It is intellectual bankruptcy.” – Dan Barker
Homosexual conduct is prevalent in nature too.
Perhaps they should speak about the child abusers within their own chruch. Nah, probably not.

What needs to be talked about is how slave were indoctrinated by Christianity being forced upon them to make the docile. Now there minds are still enslaved…mental slavery.
You should start the dialogue by freeing your own mind.
If you’re a slave, you’re a slave. If you’re not, you’re not. Up to you bobo
Party at my place on Friday. Slaves and masters both welcome.
Not all slavery in the bible was forced slavery.
To sustain themselves, some people sold themselves into slavery. There were laws governing how long the slave owner could keep a slave (if I recall from the Old Testament- 6 yrs. in the 7th year the slave, spouse and any children born into slavery had to go free unless the slave opt to remain with his master, in which case a hole was pierced in the slave’s ear publicly signifying he was now a bond servant).
Don’t lump everything into one.
This is the end of time and the Government needs to vote against any Bill
that support this type of life styles. I want top see what the speaker and all the other will do.
If it’s the end of time… Why worry?
OMG….it is too soon for the end of time as I have booked a few vacations. Can we hold back until after September until it is more convenient for me?!!!!!
And I would like to see how the Speaker and Premier and all other politicians view the issue of hatred and discrimination of minorities, as well as human rights abuses. Supporting that type of lifestyle (hated etc) is far worse than anything else.
I wonder if the Right Honorable Mr Wilson and Emeritus Raul will be talking about the rights of the indigenous population not to have foreign unlawful and unnatural practices imposed upon them and if they could please bring a decolonization expert and activist when they arrive
I suppose they said the same thing in Somalia about Female Genital Mutilation and Papua New Guinea about cannibalism.
I’ve got an idea. You do it.
“Foreign unlawful……practices”? So there are no Caymanian gay people or did they catch “gayness” from those evil expats that support your countries economy?
The indigenous population? There is no indigenous population. The Brits conquered, and the Brits are good with LBGT. Thanks for your support.
This should be interesting. Look forward to the amateur theologians amongst us lecturing the bishop on interpretation of the Bible and God’s will.
You refer to the book written by men who had the audacity to proclaim they knew the will of the omnipotent creator of the Universe?
No, he’s referring to the Bible. But thanks for sharing your ignorance.
One and the same, moron.
The Bible was written by men, ignoramus. You religious types have no grasp on reality do you?
Alden I hope you rest well at night – you have opened damnation on the Islands and to think you were raised differently. Please note this is not a project of the law school this is the person who claimed they wanted to live in cayman using again students!
So sick of this foolishness in the new when the country has more pressing issue. Funny how the governor can find time for this crap and nothing else
Yes! Indeed every nation that has embraced LBGT rights has been damned! Err, not. In fact I believe our Good Lord would be quite pleased to see us embracing and loving all our brothers and sisters in this world. Regardless of what colour, flavor or any other thing you can think of they are. The only thing I think he would hate, is the haters, the bigots, the hypocrites, the judgers. By the way, the world is not flat.
I know! Just look at Scotland ( pop.5 million) where four of it’s party leaders are gay, and Ontario (pop. 14 million) with a gay Premier! And none of the population seems to care about their own democratically elected damnation!
Topic of religion and homosexuality? I wonder if he will cover the Quran’s vs Christianity view on the matter since both religions have indentical laws and outlook on homosexuality.
Romans 1:21-22 (KJV)
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools
An excellent quote that shows why the fundamentalist bigots have forgotten the true meaning of Christianity by professing to “know God” with their dogma.
Oh they don’t like it when you quote it back at them.
How about this one from John 8:7
“He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.”
Assuming we will have to hide the bricks during the conference as Caymanians are “without sin” and it is us evil expats that infect their Godly society!
You seem to be confusing hypocrisy with ignoring sin. God tells his people to run from sin and THEN to help other people with theirs.
So if they have to run away before they help do they have to shout quite loudly?
He may tell you that. He tells me to go out at night and collect hookers in a van. He rewards me with coloured lights and music in my head.
And by day Bill is an elected member of the Legislative Assembly.
Don’t just quote scripture for the sake of quoting scripture. It would be more effective to discover the truth of ‘who’ the text is talking about. The correct way to interpret this text is to read it ‘in the context/body of scripture’ where it is found. Try reading from Romans 1:18 – 32 and therein you will find its intended recipients. This warning is not only for LGBTIQ+, but for all who identify with unrighteous and impure practices written therein. I know ‘truth’ is difficult to embrace sometimes, but the first step to healing is to embrace the TRUTH. “John 8:32…..ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free”. “Be not deceived, God is not mocked; for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap”. Pray that God grant us all the wisdom and understanding of His Word.
Interpretation, interpretation and interpretation. How the “religious” love to twist things to suit their needs.
I love impure practices. They are the best type.
Romans? What have they ever done for us?
Would they really try this in other countries where they would have been long executed? Why come to the Cayman Islands and impose your rights when the did not exist when you arrived? How about living peacefully? Not asking you to go home, just asking to leave well enough alone. There are other much more progressive countries where this is allowed and tolerated eg UK, USA and wherever you two got married. What is wrong with going there? Yes Cayman is tax free. But everything comes at a price. Why not go to Dubai and try this?
Go back to your cave. Your husband wants to beat you.
How is a conference on this island going to effect you? If you don’t like it, you go and live well enough alone.
The argument that LGBT should live their life in the shadows like they have something to hide or be ashamed of is asinine.
Sorry to tell you but Cayman has been and is being infected with liberalism from overseas. For a long time we have enjoyed an environment without political ideologies and the persecution of Christianity. Unfortunately through the new modern media and modern “journalism”, we are now being contaminated with such ideologies through the press. Soon, like the USA, it will be view as bigotry to quote the bible, and homophobic to disagree with gay marriages (already happening).
FYI: Gay marriages have nothing to do with “Marriage” or civil unions. Gay marriages is a political and ideological push perpetrated by liberal ideologue tyrants to force a moral equivalence of same marriages in the eyes of everyone, especially the church.
If you cannot see that most Churches are there to control you and for you to do what the men (and I mean the same weak men that most of us are) ask you to do, then I feel sorry for you. You need to get out more.
How can a church control anyone?
If someone chooses to live by biblical principles that’s their right.
If someone chooses to live by any sexual orientation that’s their right .
If someone chooses to believe God to be a “fairytale” that’s their right.
At the end of it all we will find out who is right.
Yes, however the church types on here do not respect the rights of others to choose.
FYI: Religious marriages have nothing to do with “Marriage” or civil unions. Religious marriages are a political and ideological push perpetrated by religious ideologue tyrants to force their version marriages onto everyone, especially those that do not support the church.
But isn’t free will a big part of their gig?
In what way is this conference not peaceful? Where is the aggression being shown by the organisers, participants or supporters? I do not see any preaching or imposition of views, but rather compassion for others and an invitation to have a fascinating and informed debate on sensitive, but very important, issues. This is an opportunity for learning, for discussion, for exchange of ideas and for building bridges between sectors of society that clearly have difficulty in understanding and accepting one another. Discrimination against LGBT people is no different to discrimination against black people, discrimination against women, discrimination old people etc. The only way that such forms of discrimination have been addressed in the past is by eliminating fear of the unknown, through education and civilised discussion. You ask the LGBT people to go elsewhere, but that includes very many Caymanians. Do you want to disown people who may be your friends, relatives or acquaintances because they fall in the LGBT sector of society – turn away your own people, or let them stay and persecute them for a trait that is as fundamental to them as the colour of your skin? You mention the UK; there are many Caymanians that go to live and work in the UK. They may do so without restriction. If UK citizens were to call upon dark skinned people leave the UK (in the same way as you have requested that LGBT people leave Cayman), how do you think that would make any dark skinned Caymanians living there feel? Their presence in the UK will not make white people turn dark, or cause them any harm. The reaction of that UK person would be irrational and driven through fear and lack of understanding. Perhaps you think the argument should be that they should move to a more tolerant society where discrimination against blacks is not permitted?
This is an opportunity for Cayman. How about simply engaging with your friends, engaging with your community, listen to what people have to say, educate yourself on the different arguments, then make up your mind?
Anonymous 2:14, it just shows the kind of people that are in this place. I’m amazed that you got more dislikes than likes; it shows where the people who are living here are going with their thoughts. I for one am in total agreement with what you say, and I’m an expat. If you came and met the island like that and you decide to marry a man, go where it is accepted. Don’t come here and try to shove that change down people’s throats.
What a fantastic thing that this conference is being held in a hotbed of bigotry and prejudice. Congratulations to the organisers. Mr Raznovich is a national hero, the modern equivalent of Rosa Parks.
you are overdoing it. never heard from the man before he was denied something, no way he is a national hero just because he reacted, on his own right, to something being denied to him and Rosa park? really? you just went too far. unless you are referring to a different Rosa Park. that was wrong in so many ways.
Sexuality discrimination today = race discrimination in the 60s.
Nonsense…..
So..
It was a sin to be Black in the 60s?
Sin = fairy tale gobbledygook.
what we need is war.
Feel free to join and one of the numerous conflicts currently in the world. There will be no war in Cayman as long as they have early starts and the rain falls.
As much of a sin as being gay is.
I hope you realize that this “national hero” status you are quick to award does nothing to benefit caymanians.
The law being revised to allow him to remain here only help expats with work permits as he would be a dependent on his husband’s permit.
Since caymanians do not need a work permit, their spousal status is in no way assisted by this revision.
A friend of mine is in this very position. Her wife (they got married in the US) can’t be here with her because as a caymanian she has no work permit to add her to as a dependent.
Your are exactly right that any solution must not descriminate against Caymanians in similar circumstances. Believe me, the “national hero” you criticise is fighting for equality for ALL, not just for himself. He had the courage to start this discussion on LGBT discrimination that your friend did not dare to start, and lost his job for doing so!
Well she should not suffer in silence. There are lots of human rights attorneys that would help crush the prejudice. There is nothing the CIG will be able to do to fight the inevitable.
