Purple Ribbon Bus to take home revelers
(CNS): The National Drug Council has managed to secure some sponsorship to support the New Year’s Eve Purple Ribbon Bus Service, which has long been seen as a major contributor to keeping the roads a little safer that night. Officials confirmed that some donors have come forward but with more support they would be able to offer an even better service. At present the bus is scheduled to run from West Bay to Bodden Town at half hour intervals with a limited number of buses going on to North Side and East End as well.
As well as the free NYE bus, the NDC has begun its campaign to warn about the dangers of abusing drugs and alcohol during the holiday season, which includes the Designated Driver Programme.
While the free bus will be on the road all night on New Year’s Eve into the very early hours of the morning, the rest of December is commonly a time when people are on the road after drinking, regardless of the DUI laws. The NDC has arranged for several restaurants and bars to give the designated driver in any group free soft drinks throughout December.

Why complain about the regular taxi fares, call UBER Cayman, they have the best service and rates
Is there really an UBER Cayman?
What is the number?
No, but it’s a really good idea!
Governments’ successive failures to address the dysfunctional taxi market and the woeful public bus services have led to a normalization of driving after drinking among middle class residents. There is plenty of evidence that such normalization in turn increases the rates of such crimes among the population as a whole. The high death rate on the roads could be helped by the Government doing something to open up access to taxi services and regulate pricing. But that would cost votes, so no-one dares put human safety before votes.
Why drink and drive when you can smoke and fly?
This should be run all year round….revelers would pay a few dollars for sure…
same reason as why there is no bus service from the airport…….
greedy taxi drivers won’t let it happen…
Too right rip off taxis with no regulation and a non existent bus service probably the worst public service in the Caribbean!!!!!!
Took a taxi on Thursday on another island.
8 people to the airport from the same distance as Bodden Town.
About $5.00 each
But regulating the taxis by radical measures such as, and I tremble saying it, introducing metres, would mean taxis could not rip people off by discriminatory pricing and that would cost votes.
The attitude of taxi drivers to everyone is a great example of Caymankind. Some of the horror stories I have heard about what people have been charged from the Airport to the Ritz is a disgrace. As a tip to tourists, say you need a taxi to the Villas of the Galleon, get a quote, then en route ask them to take you to the Ritz. That usually saves 30% on the fare.
What right do they have to stop a service?
