Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall in Bridgetown, Barbados

(CNS): Government officials have released the schedule for the planned visit by Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, to the Cayman Islands next week as part of the couple’s two-week Caribbean tour. The heir to the British throne and the Duchess of Cornwall will be in Cayman for a little over one day, but they have a packed agenda and the public is being encouraged to come out and welcome them at some of the events they will be attending. Governor Martyn Roper said the visit was “an important and special moment” and the public’s participation was welcomed.

“Many opportunities have been built into the programme for the public to come out and greet their Royal Highnesses,” Roper said. “I know that they look forward to seeing the people of the Cayman Islands.” The governor said he hoped “that as many people as possible can take part” and that they have “an enjoyable and memorable day”.

Given the tight schedule and the military precision by which such visits are conducted, access to the couple will be restricted and brief. Royal fans wanting to catch a glimpse of the couple should arrive early at the relevant events and are also being encouraged to rideshare because of challenges with parking.

The Royal tour started in St Lucia on Sunday 17 March. They then travelled to Barbados on Tuesday, 19 March and then onto St Vincent and the Grenadines yesterday. Today they arrived at St Kitts and Nevis and on Saturday they travel to Grenada. They will reach Cuba on Sunday, from where they will fly to the Cayman Islands, the last stop on the tour, on Wednesday.

The first event on their Cayman agenda will be to officially open the new airport expansion project at Owen Roberts International Airport, where the public will be given their first chance to see them arrive and take part in the ceremony. All other events will take place on Thursday, which has been declared a public holiday in honour of the visit.

why all these nasty comments? I realize that not everyone is pro British and pro royalty but all this disrespect is un-necessary.
Royalty (not British obviously) has been around from time the world was put in place. The Good book tells us that we are to” respect” those in authority over us”.
Get over your hatred. No one is forcing you to go out to see them. Say at home if that makes you feel better.

I don’t think the Royals are interested in meeting the common folk and if they were, how would they get through the barrier of people consisting of Cayman’s wealthiest and every government member, their cronies, statutory authority and civil service heads? No sir, I will stay home, but thanks for the day off.

The so called Unity Government schedule is a farce – full of no timing details, no routes they will travel by car and general secrecy.

The separation of the Royals from the general public is against the modern day practice of Royals mingling with the public.

It is understood now why the $11 Million helicopter was brought here so quickly – it will be the primary mode of transport in Grand Cayman, this will not allow those persons on the roadside an opportunity to see them.

With the exception of the Pedro Castle visit, clearly Mac and Alden do not want the Prince to interact with the general public.

So thank you for the day off, I will go go to the beach instead.

    Smith Barcadere here I come!

The events calendar for the 03/28 Brac visit – where the Prince will open the public pool at the Brac Sports Complex – says the Complex is on the Brac’s North Side… isn’t it in fact up on the Bluff? Isn’t that where the new pool is?

CNS: You are right! My fault for copying the info the GIS release without engaging my brain. Coastal Way, Stake Bay, is the location of the small pool that’s been there forever, next to the high school. The new pool is, as you say, on the Bluff. I will change that now on the calendar and double check with GIS tomorrow.

Ah ! The basket of deplorables out giving that good old Caymankind welcome, with the usual not bothering to check the facts brigade. Prince Charles is probably one of Caymans biggest potential allies- he is all for conservation, preventing overbuilding, protecting the environment. Now what do most of the complainers go on about……yep, over development, conservation, the “good ol’ days” when you could kill 5000 mosquitoes just by swinging your arm quickly…
    XXXXX

CNS: I deleted the silly scaremongering. If writing anti-royal comments constituted treason, half the population of Britain would have been arrested.

So many two faced comments,- gleefully accept your British passports, retain your “colonial” status as it benefits your economy, but p–s on representatives of the Royal Family.

I keep hearing this but how exactly the royals or colonial status or being a British territory benefits the Cayman Islands economy ? Does the queen have like a bag of 2.3 billion pounds she just presents to the local government every year in exchange for loyalty?

4.07pm the Royals have nothing to do with it, if you are struggling to ascertain the benefits of Cayman remaining as a colony go talk to your Premier and all his Ministers.

If I’m honest, I am not the biggest fan of the Royals (although nothing against them either) but perhaps we should show a bit of support/gratitude for the UK accepting Caymanian University entrants with open arms or as apprentices in Football/Sports teams etc. When that happens, it’s all good – all over the News (especially when our people come home ‘Degree-Qualified’ from ‘xyz’ University etc)…. but the rest of the time, yeah.. let’s use these comments sections to ‘slag-off’ anything ‘Jolly old England’ (until it’s time for our Son or Daughter to take advantage of the opportunities overseas) …. then we can’t wait to brag of the fact to all and sundry.

CNS Should be ashamed of their Event Calendar… A 6 year old could have done this. It reads nothing apart from airport arrival.

CNS: Wow. Not overreacting at all then. Every single bit of information is there. Just click on the links for Day 2, 28th March. If you cannot see them, refresh your page. No, it’s hardly rocket science to create a calendar and embed it in the site, but with multiple devises and multiple browsers and a zillion other technical issues that can pop up on a dynamic, interactive site like CNS, there can be unforeseen hiccups. We do our best.
