Store clerk fights off would-be robber
(CNS): A lone masked man, who turned out to be unarmed when he attempted to rob a store in George Town Monday evening, met with some resistance from the store clerk, who hit the suspect with a stick, sending him off empty handed, according to a Royal Cayman Islands Police Service report. The foiled stick-up happened at a mini-mart on Godfrey Nixon Way at around 8:30pm. The masked man entered the shop pointing an object, which was covered with a cloth, at the worker inside the store and demanded cash. But a struggle ensued when the would-be robber was struck by the store clerk.
The suspect was about 5’6”, dressed in black shoes, dark jeans and a black hoodie, and had a black cloth over his face.
Police said he fled the scene on foot. Nothing was taken, no one was injured and the object he had brandished appears not to have been a gun or any other weapon.
The matter is now under investigation by the RCIPS and anyone with information is asked to contact the George Town Police Station at 949-4222. Anonymous tips can be provided to the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777 or website. Tips can also be submitted anonymously via the Miami-based call centre of Crime Stoppers at 800-8477(TIPS), or online.
Innocent citizens continue to be placed at a disadvantage by uncaring individuals that have bullet proof vest and guns and those who are provided with taxpayer funded security.
Happy to buy that clerk a beer any time! We need more like him. Only one criticism – a length of lead pipe works a lot better :-}
Course if the store clerk had a weapon and used it and killed the little shit then people would have been outraged over a “unarmed innocent man” being shot by a gun owner.
Fake news
Would your fictional story be any different if a woman defended herself and killed the man because her child was in the store?
Why create a scenario with an extra probability? Courts and judges and sentences are always dependent on the situation. Self defence is allowed.
Yes, however, in this jurisdiction, the nasty little demon “excessive force” often rears it’s scaly head. Someone attacks you and you hospitalise them. You will be charged with EF, pending an investigation to determine if the threat was mitigated before you busted them up.
Look into it. The victim is at a disadvantage here. You’re minding your own business and someone threatens you. You are expected to measure the level of threat and respond in kind. Not me. I will put the bastards in the ground if I can. I am an old fart, but I ain’t dead.
Hope the crook got a broken arm or something
5’6″… I’d have given the little shit a beating too!
Brave once you know he didn’t have a gun! 5’6 or not, take some cohones to take on a guy with a stick when you think he has a gun. Bravo to the store clerk.
