Webb denies charges, bailed on $10M bond
(CNS): Former CIFA President Jeffrey Webb has denied allegations of corruption and bribery in the massive FIFA racketeering investigation and has been bailed but placed under house arrest on a $10 million bond according to news reports. Despite speculation that Webb was in talks with the US authorities regarding a plea deal, the fifty-year-old Caymanian from Savannah appeared in a New York court Saturday afternoon and pleaded not guilty.
The first reports from the court hearing indicate that Webb was released but he must stay within a twenty-mile radius of the courts after he surrendered his British and Caymanian passports.
The former CONCACAF president and FIFA VP was extradited to the United States following his arrest in Switzerland on 27 May with six other football administrators in connection with the $150 million probe into football corruption spanning more than 20 years.

the funny thing is USA is making it a big deal for americans to go to CUBA now and Americans has been going CUBA for years undercover! wow wow wow!
And your point is?
I don’t understand how Legge could come to the conclusion that Jeff Webb was a much-loved local hero when none of his friends/supporters/cohorts seem to be able to string together two sentences without spelling and/or grammatical errors. More Hillsborough Community College graduates I presume. People working in the banking industry must cringe every time they see “Jeffrey Webb Caymanian banker” in one of those international articles.
Family support is understandable as the old adage of blood thicker than water will always hold true, but the number of ordinary people who think that Jeff deserves to be set free, and presumably keep all of the purported bribe money, just because there is injustice in the Middle East, the USA is upset because they didn’t win the right to hold a beauty contest, or because we have gangs in Cayman down right ridiculous.
For the record, I have more Caymanian ancestors than Jeff Webb, a lot more.
If you think that’s bad, for astonishing illiteracy and ignorance just look at his buddy Jack Warner!
And your point is….?
This is a massive conspiracy involving a secret underworld organization that has denounced all links and ties to coherency, reality and literacy.
The Illiterati grow each day in number and now search blog posts for other suitable candidates who show little promise. This is now their preferred option since getting banned from calling Talkshite radio.
They are the true guardians of this land and are controlled by a few, possibly in Rome to guard against state treason and external influences such as schooling and basic common sense,
Well he said he is not guilty and put up the $10 million – what more do them New Yorkers want?…
42 comments for/or against Jeff Webb Wow!!! lets say this must be hatred coming from some of you. A son of our soil is accused of wrong doings. You people are here working up yourself up wondering where he got the bail bond from, while divers discovered a cement block with what appears to be a pair of handcuffs attached to it – means this is a unsolved crime – some one has lost a loved one- this is left unsolved in the islands. Don’t that bother you more than the United States poor due diligence regime. The Unites State continues to monitor every country’s due diligence while hers on the down – low just like everything else. Try help our local police solve this problem with block and handcuffs and leave the US alone.
and there are plenty of articles to comment on for those others stories. This story if you take the time to read it, is about Webbs arrest for corruption, so if you’re interested in those other stories like the home made anchor, post there.
I know you feel the man go do no wrong as he bought you and your families dinner once, but most other people are not bought so easily and won’t turn our back on theft and greed.
And your point is ??
You would rather focus on what may not even be a crime – there is no sign of anything other than a piece of jagged metal being attached to the block, and if it were a body why not handcuff the body directly than a piece of metal – rather than deal with the evidence produced by the United States that a crime has been committed in the FIFA case, and Webb implicated. I wonder why. And as for why the rest of us are interested, that’s because of the enormous potential damage to the jurisdiction and the financial services industry that funds 2/3rds of our economy that is created when every article that mentions Webb’s name points out he is a Caymanian and monies went through the Cayman banking system undetected. Finding a concrete block with a pair of handcuffs attached is not going to make international news or give ammunition to those who want to destroy our financial services industry – Mr Webb’s case unfortunately does both.
He’s using the block as a red herring. Hey look over there!
Gotcha
Hello
Lets get it straight you, for the money to get to Cayman in every instance it had to come through the good ole USA! So what is this about singling out Cayman banks. That Mr. Webb is Caymanians is indeed a valid point and that he is caught up to the yin yan in the FIFA bribery scandal is also correct, but the U.S. Banking system also, played a major role in this affair and perhaps even the regulators. for if the proper processes had been followed, suspicious activity reports would have been filed, and if they have been filed then what did the regulators do all of this time huh, turn a blind eye because of the world status of FIFA. It is a shame that one of us is involved yes, ( remember he is still to be tried in a court of law) but there is a lot of blame to be shared by those up North and even at home if there was no reporting of these transactions as suspicious.
I would be more concerned about the 42 countries following this closely!
Suddenly, what people in the Cayman Islands think or any other local news fades into insignificance.
Have you taken the time to read the court documents, or do you think he will get to select 12 Caymanian friends to sit on the jury?
I cannot believe how many blogs the Jeff Webb story has had. It’s news, I get that. A few comments I understand but the hatred and jealousy is disheartening. The FIFA corruption, with FIFA’s money, is FIFA’s business and has been going on for years, so how does Jeff in 2015 be held responsible? Why this year-2015- does the U.S. care? Is it because they did not win the rights to host the World Cup (again)? Is it because the U.S., like the rest of the world, is using this to further their cause to attack our financial industry by using Jeff as a ploy? Why not wait until the case is tried in Court and the evidence is made public? Why hold the Court case, be judge, jury and lawyers and pronounce him guilty before his case is heard? Why does it matter what hotels or food he ate?
I trust all these bloggers have made their opinion heard on the Port, the Education Bill, the labour law, foreclosures, families living without lights and water ( while we brag how rich we are) ?
@9:00am. The USA cares because they saw it as a God-given chance to grab a senior member of the Cayman Islands banking community and put pressure on them.
Anyone who thinks this is just about FIFA and CONCACAF needs to wake up because this is going much further.
If you read the court documents released to date Webb had only one option – cooperate. The only question now is how much and who can he give them?
USA is just angry and wants to stick their nose in everything.. Even that Donald Trump situation is craziness! oh GOODNESS congrats to the new miss USA BTW
A senior member of the Cayman Islands banking community?
I would imagine Jeff’s ranking as a banker in Cayman is on par with the Cayman senior men’s team ranking with FIFA.
Gosh, too many stupid people on this island. No wonder you vote in people such as McMac and DuhAlden. J. Webb, according to the indictment, is accused of taking millions of dollars in bribes, racketeering, corruption, etc. Just because others did it before him does not make it ok for him to do it as well. Just because he gave people a few bucks here and there does not make it okay for him to steal millions right from your nose. Silly rabbit.
It is sad when the local media publishes nonsense and factually wrong ‘views’ misleading the public as news. Wendy its a wake-up call for you. here are the facts that you may want to check:-
1. Webb never entered a ‘ not guilty plea’ in fact it didn’t enter any ‘plea’ at all. In the US law there is a provision of “Excludable Delay Order” that is signed by the judge on the request of the prosecution (yes the prosecution) and not the defense. It stops the right to a speedy trial for 30 days and allows the prosecutors to work out a deal with the accused to avoid a lengthy trial and save the time of the court.
2. Here are the facts Wendy, get your facts straight before you cut and paste, please spend a little time on research before you cut and paste:-
“The issue of a plea did not arise in court Saturday, but U.S. District Court Judge Raymond Dearie, who is overseeing the case, signed an order for “excludable delay,” meaning the clock on Webb’s right to a speedy trial will be waived for 30 days, a tactic prosecutors often seek when they’re cutting a deal.”
I will post a reference once you redo your research and perhaps an apology to your readers for this sloppy reporting.
You use to be an amazing journalist, what happened?
best regards
CNS: Did the BBC also get it wrong? Fifa corruption: Jeffrey Webb pleads not guilty in US
… and CNN: FIFA scandal: Jeffrey Webb pleads not guilty in New York
… and The Wall Street Journal: Former FIFA Vice President Jeffrey Webb Pleads Not Guilty to Corruption Charges
… and all the other major news outlets the world over? Are you accusing all of these journalists of being sloppy, or just Wendy? If you have information that suggests otherwise, do share.
I hope the ‘S’ in your name does not stand for ‘smart’ or ‘sensible’…
SK, were you still drunk at 7:43am when you posted your comment, or do you not read anything outside of CNS?
SK……………………..
Feel free to DO your research using any of the below… there are more as well which I guess you can find yourself. You should have done that first before posting your comment of false accusations!
I think it is you who needs to post an apology ……………….

I believe Mr. Webb gave himself over to greed. From what I’ve read, I appears he was going along, quite willingly, for the ride until his world of greed collapsed. He now has to face the music and the consequences of his actions. Let the courts sort through this apparent mess and may justice be served.
strange…never heard this mentioned on the phone in radio shows…..
#caymanostriches
Love them people who give their allegiance to those who may have given them a dollar some time in the past – yet stolen millions right from underneath their noses. Stupidity knows no bounds.
There is a lesson here that we should all learn: Work hard and save at least a small part of our salaries – because we never know when we might be falsely accused and might need a $10 million or so for bail money…
What about poor Costas
It’s so sad our own has to fall I can bet if he where in cayman they would not be talking this way my fellow Caymanian do what you have to do to regain freedom with your family too much hate and jeolousy you but people who so selfish and praying on this poor little island and to my people continue to pray for Mr.Webb . It’s a lot like him out there and here but they just mist the bus when it pass one day it will stop and all you greedy you know who you are that wants to be like Mr. Webb will be caught.
Does Webb have just one literate supporter?
Yes he does but at the moment he is tied up typing for the rest of his supporters.
Again i’m shocked at how quickly we So called Caymanians aré so frigging quick to Judge this Man, jelousy is a bitch, we should be proud of this Caymanian for what he has accomplished, The LAW does say ” A PERSON IS INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY BY A COURT OF LAW” note it does not say “GUILTY BY A BUNCH OF CAYMANIAN GOSSIPMONGERS” who cant find nothing better to do with the insignificante life they live!
Jack , XXXXXX… Jeff Webb’s innocence will be proved in a court of Law ! But for God sakes man; when you see the charges against other FIFA members that they pleaded guilty too, and those who are fighting extradition .
Cayman bringing charges on the debunked hospital scheme against Webb / Watson, buying millions in real estate ,… not here in Cayman but far away from prying eyes, follow the money trail; AND YOU ARE SHOCKED. You better wake up and smell the coffee.
I want some of what you’re having…
Jack, was the 100+ pages of Jeff’s indictment too much for you to read? Clearly so.
How did he get 2 UK passports?
The UK provided them. FYI, and others who think like you, there are numerous forms of the British Passport out there. So yes, there is a Cayman Is passport ,it is just a different version of the British one.
Yes, does anyone know how one can obtain 2 UK passports and why?
It’s not that difficult if you have reason. I had two passports for 10 years. Same details, different passport numbers. If you are working in Israel one week, then Saudi the next you need a second passport.
Same here. Many of the Arab/Muslim countries can get pretty arsy if they find you’ve also been to Israel and the old trick of not getting your passport stamped by the Israelis isn’t (as a friend of mine found out) 100% safe. As 7:10 says HMPO just issue you a second passport and don’t cancel the original one. That worked for me for over eight years. However, quite how Webb justified it is another matter.
1. Cayman Islands Passport = BOTC Passport;
2. Full UK/British Citizen Passport (any BOTC can apply for UK citizenship with app and fee – once approved and sworn in, subsequently apply for full UK/British Passport). The UK does not require the surrender of passports from birth country or resident nationality.
Maybe he has Costas’ passport, that would explain why they can’t find a picture of him anywhere.
sounds like someone has never used google images before.. these fool fool people!
@9:45 am – BEST comment on this thread!!!
Apply for them you fool.
I payed the 10millions u bunch of haters get a life
Liar liar pants on fire. You’re not even old enough to have stolen that much money yet.
you so quick to judge that person could be your grandmother
Strange, so did I! Oh no ….. He done it again!
No guilty is the start of the negotiation process, then they will work their way to some middle point over succeeding months.
Bryce pleaded not guilty, too, until the negotiation process incoporating evidence (based on burden of proof) concluded a 9-year custodial sentence.
Like I said: It’s a start. ⚽️
I wonder who signed the $10Mil Bond? That’s a lot of bread
Don’t worry it was not you that signed. You couldnt afford that remember when he pad for your cuc bill?Jeffrey Webb has friends. His friends are not the fake caymanians that lives in cayman and you happened to be one.
Looks like 6:46pm ruffled a few feathers USDOJ will have lots to disclosed on case. Why should anyone read this nonsense of bitter souls.
It’s his own fault. Greed & stupidity is a bad combination.
I may very well be a fake caymanian, provided that I’m married here with legal rights to these islands since 2003. Assuming will reduce you to making a complete A– of yourself.
Maybe it is you who has been denied help with a (past due) CUC bill since Mr. Webb is no longer around to be of assistance.
As a non Caymanian, I don’t understand what you have just written
You should try reading the good Doctor’s book.
Oh Ya, he got friends – Bubba: CELL BLOCK 31 C / BIG RALPH: CELL BLOCK 31E , and the rest of the tier.
Bryce Merren was smuggling drugs dumbo this is different Bryce. Merren is a criminal.
Yes, Bryce Merren is a criminal, and Jeff Webb will be once the judge passes sentence.
I never followed that Bryce story… it was boring…Who is he anyway???? anyways did that Bryce guy ever got bail?? update me on this story please. Have a great Monday everyone!
The sentencing minimum for his offenses are still stiff– ~20 years. Please take heed, Jeff has 15 charges against him. Bribery, money laundering, fraud, tax evasion, etc. are all criminal offenses.
So, what is not criminal about his offenses or role in the FIFA corruption scandal?
7:05pm–Pooh Bear, wether it were drugs or white collar fraud, they were all crimes driven by greed, that carry custodial sentences.
Yep cause corruption doesn’t make you a criminal.
Well, in cayman it doesn’t.
Webb’s bond was secured by ten people, including his wife and her parents.
They posted real estate, retirement bonds, automobiles, and jewellry.
And VIP tickets to the CONCACAF Gold Cup final game!
6;46.did you miss any bread off your table? or did you have any bread on your table Why worry about Jeff Webb? He has sincere friends and family – unlike you – you would have rotten -when was the last time you fed your family? Keep on wondering , there is none to lend to you.
@9:48pm, GET OVER IT! You and others will survive these crushing events. In the meanwhile, he will need the support, as he negotiate with the USDOJ in this “FIFA, get rich quick scheme”.
He didn’t win the GA Lotto (although it may have felt like it). So, let him explain his disregard for those impoverished nations & International communities that never received the HELP they needed or was promised.
Paying utilities for family or friends does not align with FIFA’s (a non-profit Organization) Mission Statement.
Again, like the $10Mil bail bond, the alleged $150Mil in illicit gains is also a lot of cheddar (i.e. food on the table).
SUDDENLY FEELING HUNGRY?!?
Typical Caymanian ignorant attitude….faced with facts they don’t like, they simply resort to insults and red herrings. Look it up.
According to CNN he has started singing….
U.S. law enforcement officials told CNN the former Cayman Islands banker immediately began telling authorities what he knows about a 24-year scheme in which FIFA officials allegedly enriched themselves by rigging organization elections and selling marketing and hosting rights to soccer tournaments and World Cup qualifying matches.
His apparent cooperation could set the stage for a scrum among high-ranking soccer officials and others willing to offer information in exchange for leniency, according to U.S. law enforcement officials.

To plead Guilty: Co-operate with authorities in a plea bargain deal to give up other criminals for a reduced sentence.
To plead Not Guilty: Take your chances in a jury trial of peers
I feel Sorry for you if Jeff Webb not pleading guilty is making you so sad and unhappy with your life. So much that you lose sleep at night worrying about that they should kill this man name Jeff Webb.
Not make him live Wow. Jeff Webb you deserves a second chance. What if it was you or your child wouldn’t you want the justice system to give them a another’s chance at life. Stop being so mean and hateful.
Everybody has done something wrong at one point and time in their live that was not right and has asked forgiveness from God, they friends and family. Start from tomorrow Sunday to be a much better person than the person you is today Saturday 18 July.
Look yourself in the mirror right now all of you and say I HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING WRONG IN MY LIFE AND I AM PERFECT. NO ONE CAN SAY THAT THE ANSWER THAT THEY WILL GET BACK. – WOULD BE. “THAT I AM NOT PERFECT!
Have a great weekend – MY FELLOW CAYMANIANS AND EXPATS. PEACE BE ON EARTH. BE STill.
I love the CAYMANS!!!
A not guilty plea, is part of the negotiation process. Whether he’s guilty or not will be determined in the court of law. Also, it’s international news.
You are right! No one’s perfect. But, with his arrest the USDOJ will have an opportunity to get to the root cause, and extent, of the FIFA corruption. It’s already been determined to be systemic problem, pre-dating Jeff Webb. However, at some point, he became an integral part of the problem.
He now has a 2nd chance; so, let him plea his way as close to freedom, as possible.
His crimes won’t go unpunished, but 5 years on prison is better than 20 years.
Happy to hear he had 10 bills lying around spare. Concacaf/FIFA must pay well.
Hahaha you tell us. It sounds like you saw his pay check every month. Sounds like you knows alot about him. You must have sat at his dinner table one season ago. And had your filet MIGNON and ate his free food. Now you talk about him when he is not around you. SHAME ON YOU being 2 faced.
10 Million dollar bond?
Where does a guy get that kind of money after years of working in a job that probably pays between $100,000 and $150,000?
Ah that British passport! What did the UK ever do for Cayman in between constantly plotting its downfall?! And what do Born Generational (yep, we can do it too) UK citizens here get reciprocally for the grant of this passport to Caymanians? Nothing…..other than fairly constant abuse from SOME (note the emphasis) quarters, especially those in the North and East. Thankfully average Caymanians-the silent majority -are not part of the anti-UK stuff that goes on.
Fiscal prudence?
political stability?
If he can just make it to our shores he will be safe. He could stay here and help this country grow and grow.
You happy you sound sad and disappointed. ROTFL. ROLL ON THE FLOOR LAUGHLING?
Good going Jeff!
Is there a 5 Star hotel close?
Yes there is. It’s about ten including the Ritz. Why are you worried?
You never read that the Cayman and the U>S has him staying in a five star hotel –
I know you are concerned. Try feed your family.
