Burglars target cops lock-up in failed break-in
(CNS): Brazen burglars attempted to break into a container located right outside the George Town Police Station last night (Monday 13 July), where the RCIPS is storing old evidence and drugs awaiting disposal. A spokesperson for the police said the would-be burglars didn’t manage to get into the container, which is located in the rear yard of the station, and the evidence and other property was not touched. However, they did remove the padlocks.
The RCIPS said the thieves were likely disturbed by the security officers on patrol at the location.
“Police have processed the scene and determined that nothing was taken from the container, possibly because the culprits were interrupted by security checks of the grounds,” a spokesperson stated.
These people were clearly stupid, for trying to break-in to a container on the GTPS compound. But CNS, why are you reporting what is being held in the container? I think the news agencies here need to use some tact and common sense when reporting the news. When needed to report more info, they don’t and info that is/or shouldn’t be reported, is.
CNS: We are given this information by the RCIPS.
1. How stupid can someone be to try break in to a container, on the GTPS compound.
2. It would have been very embarrassing for the police if they succeeded.
3. CNS, why are you reporting what i stored in the container?
I am embarrassed……I hope Baines is also.
I have taken every opportunity recently to give kudos to RCIPS whenever I see them actually doing something to fight crime. It seems to have gone to the COP’s head as now I see they are incapable of keeping thieves out of their own yard, let alone keeping them out of mine.
I may look like a fool for supporting Baines and RCIPS, however I cannot do so any more with a straight face. I hope you at least charge the security company for the damage to your container.
Come on Baines, get your act together, fire that stupid Security Company, there are others on Island that can do a better job, like the ones that guard Legge………….better yet, for less money, hire two more rookie officers just to patrol the police yard, then do the right thing and write that resignation letter.
Very ominous situations in Cayman but not surprising considering what I see now hired by the RCIPS Re Cay donkey comment those days are long gone and we have seen the best days for Cayman and the RCIP behind us. Caymanians need to understand when they destroy our island they will be no place to go for most. Any other place or institutions would have fired those who are paid quite handsomely and who’s responsibility it is to protect us and our island but wilfully do neither. Yet we freely hand out OBE & MBE to those who fail us miserably so long as they carry out the UK’s hidden agenda and protect their interest.
You obviously haven’t actually checked what’s going on in the USA. Crime is surging there also and they criminals are out quicker than they get in. Granted, they do have better detectives, however, bleeding heart liberals living in the land of make believe keeps they catch and release program going over there. Things are without question getting worse here, but it’s even worse in the rest of the world’s western societies.
At least though, in the USA, one is allowed the tools to defend ones self and property. Here the attitude is “we can’t protect you, but we don’t want you to protect yourself either”
Which reminds me… Did they ever find that police van that went missing some te ago?? CNS?
Some years ago there was a similar break in to a shed in the police compound where drugs held as evidence were stored. On this occasion the break-in was successful and 50lbs of cocaine was back on the street. It was established there was no lighting by the shed, no guard in the area and a simple padlock on the door.It seems some progress has been made.
It wasn’t a shed, it was their “vault” INSIDE the Police Station, and it was all caught on CCTV. I believe they recovered less than 10 kilos out of the 50+ taken.
I really have to laugh at this…
On a more serious note, why do you need security guards? When I was in the force, and based at the police stn we had to every 30 mins do regular patrols in the yard. Why not get these lazy idiots to do the same!
Could you please clarify if the security guards were responding to a specific alert or if they were just on rounds? IOW, does the container have an alarm that went off or was it just dumb luck that stopped this theft?
The fact that a police headquarters feels the need to hire a private security firm to patrol their premises confirms they are not respected and also inadequate. Most crucially, we all suffer as a result.
Baines, please leave your badge and gun at the security booth when you check-out.
Thanks.

The burglars knew about this container and its contents, why else would you risk breaking into the GT Police Station premises, that is proof enough that there is dirt within their ranks and enough for me to never report anything to the RCIPS.
Should consider ourselves fortunate that they didn’t take the whole container away!
Something tells me that will be next week’s headline.
Not even the police is safe from these robbers. What a mess…
So does the RCIPS realise this is like admitting they are very incompetent and maybe worse? Don’t say it’s lack of staff again!!
CNS did you know that the airport is planning to hire a private security firm to guard the airport during the night? And also for the General Aviation terminal during the day? Check it out!
Is the CIAA afraid that someone is going to try to steal the airport?!!!
If i remember correctly, a few months back there was an article published revealing the amount of officers on during the night shift in each district. With GT having approx. 7 officers on per night. So considering sick days and vacations it could be very well less on some nights. That would tell us why they are hiring security to keep watch on a building with not only high value items but also illicit drugs and weapons. Not that hard to figure out actually… just saying.
Never seen it in the paper to be bidded out?? How can a police department hire private security? I believe an internal investigation should be done, this is crazy. Our money is paying for this and it seems certain people get away with certain things and not a damn thing is done. Should I guess what ministry is in charge of this? The same question goes who in government has such great interest in a certain security company?
I guess if the CCTV does not work, you use his Security Co. instead? What’s next, Prison Officers?
Well, if the RCIP hasn’t been embarrassed about anything else up to this point this should certainly cause them to hang their heads in shame – that is if they have any pride at all. What a farce. Wow. Just wow.
Since when does security guard something at the police station??? I wonder which security company this is or do i need to ask???? But again, i ask why is a security guard guarding a container at the police station. I thought the government is broke. Do we have to continue wasting money to “certain” companies to keep the growing???? CCTV, Glass House, now the Police Station???? Where will this end? Come on people something isn’t right here???
Burglars don’t have any respect for the RCIPS obviously. We need real leadership and until we get it then we the public are easy pickins’! We need to implement a zero tolerance approach very soon or we will all pay dearly.
Did he or them get charged with attempt burglary.
WAIT did i read correctly a container by the police department and “security” doing patrols??? Why the hell is government paying security guards to guard something that is at the police station. Please tell me I read wrong….
We’re actually lucky that they did not break into the police station and steal some of the police while they were sleeping…
They tried, but all of the sleeping policemen were out on the road.
How did they know what exactly was in that container????? One should never be surprised at what is going on this island when our UK master has sought and willfully employed some of the most corrupt from elsewhere. This has seriously erode trust and confidence in the RCIPS and it would appear its by design.
well they stole a police van in the past, this is a total joke, stealing from the police station???
