Cop’s caffeine fix caught on camera in Blue-spot
(CNS): The need for a daytime refreshment has seen yet another police patrol vehicle caught on camera in a disabled parking slot. The latest picture was taken at the Marquis Plaza on Friday afternoon and posted on the campaign website, Blue Spot, that snaps and shames all abled bodied drivers parking in spaces reserved for the disabled in an effort to raise awareness about keeping the spaces free for those in need.
CNS contacted the police about the latest parking infraction but there has been no comment from the RCIPS management about the picture and the cop’s decision to park where they did while dropping into a local coffee shop. Parking in a disabled slot is an offence under the traffic law.

According to the Chief Of Police, David Baines, this was a matter of security and he doesn’t comment on matters of security..The governor says she has nothing to do with allowing the officer to park there…
Sorry guys, I believe they were parked in the correct spot. The majority of the RCIPS are handicapped in some way or form…..
Such “humor” is deeply offensive. You should be ashamed.
Donuts. They had a professional need to buy donuts.
How many disabled cars showed up and needed that spot in the few min the police were there??? NONE…Some people just like too gripe about everything on this green earth..
Are you an obese angry woman with a pick-up truck perchance?
What terrible comment. Those spots are reserved for handicap persons. Not some of the time, all the time. What if someone needed the spot 30 seconds later? The purpose of those spots is to remain available for them WHEN they need it. To park in that spot for convenience is sheer laziness and disrespect. I’m sure that police officer has given out a ticket for that very offence. Who’s writing this officer the ticket? You cant park in a fire zone and say “was there a fire in that 30 seconds? No”. Obviously you don’t have a handicap person in your family or are not handicap yourself so you should be grateful for your blessings and park in the proper zones. Next time you have to walk the extra 7 steps to get your junk food, feel the gratitude for the ability in which you have to walk those steps. Or perhaps think twice about the junk food if you cant make the journey without parking right next to the place. Shame on you.
How many pictures of your car are on the Blue Spot Facebook page for inconsiderate people that park in handicapped spots? People like you should have to spend a week in a wheelchair to see what it is like. You might change your tune after that.
You’re ignorant
Caymankind at its best.
Really!! This BS attitude is what’s wrong with society on this island. I feel sorry for you if you should ever have to navigate Cayman parking lots or sidewalks using a wheelchair.
When the police don’t respect and obey the laws they are hired to enforce good luck making the public do the same.
I just drove for 5 minutes along North Church Street and saw eight people talking on their phones. There is no respect for the law on this island plain and simple for the fact that the police really don’t care to begin with.
Next time you are in the USA or Canada try running stop red lights, making illegal u-turns, speeding, the list goes on, and see how long it takes to be pulled over or you receive a ticket in the mail.
Maybe they ran in to get coffee for the Legges? Just saying…..
Very poor judgement.
The law is the law!
Don’t be silly, this is Cayman… The laws only apply to some of the people some of the time, and even then, not till later. When you ask? Not sure. Soon come!
treason!
Is not ticketing them corruption Mr. Premier? I mean, if they were doing their job, they would ticket me, wouldn’t they?
Why haven’t their names been released? They release everyone else’s names…….let me guess they aren’t from here?
Given the job the Police do by & large, a difficult one, should they not be granted the 5 minutes it takes to stop for a coffee , without the vehicle having its photo posted on some forum ? The location is by the old cinema , they are not technically in the handicap spot, neither are they blocking the access traffic lane , as the vehicle is curb-side with enough space to allow a dually F350 by.I am obscured by parking daily in a dozen areas by regular motorists ,not the Police. I am most certain that the driver of this police vehicle would move it in an instant , if they saw they were restricting a genuine vehicle with a disabled license plate needing the parking space. GIve it a rest and allow the Police to get on with their jobs.
If the police knew what the laws were and followed them themselves they wouldn’t have to waste time dealing with things like this that are completely avoidable. As a result they would have far more time to apprehend criminals.
perhaps it was an coffee emergency….
It is a disabled space? I thought it was reserved for obese angry women in pick up trucks.
Wonder if they were dumb enough to think that spot it for the “boys in blue”, doh.
Technically it doesn’t look like they are actually parked in the blue spot – they are parked blocking the entrance to the blue spot, while simultaneously blocking a lane of traffic through the car park. Two birds stoned! Slow claps for RCIPS.
People on this blog are so negative about the simplest of thinges. If the police are seen driving around its a problem if they aren’t driving around its a problem. The person that took this pic of the police car clearly took the photograph from a distance so as to appear as if the vehicle is actually in the handicapped parking when it really isn’t, thank goodness for zoom. The vehicle is parked anywhere from 8-11ft from the handicapped parking space, and is clearly very close to the curb nor is the vehicle blocking traffic behind it. That parking area at Marquee Plaza is quite wide around the corner which would be where the rear of the police vehicle is parked. I most certainly would agree that the officers were actually parked in the handicapped space or literally blocking any disabled vehicle from getting access to it but that’s not the case. What if there was some disturbance at the bar or in the coffee shop where a patron was stabbing or beating another person and the police are called what should they do park the car a mile away from the location because oh that’s a handicapped parking space. Like come on people be real. Am sure many of the others commenting on this weren’t even there when this photo was taken. So perhaps People shouldn’t be so quick to cast aspersions about something they don’t know. Yes it could very well be the case that the officer in fact was not on an emergency and simply stopped for a coffee, and again the vehicle isn’t parked in nor is it blocking the handicapped parking space. Give it a break people. The officers are damned of they do and damned if they don’t wth!!!!
