(CNS): Election officials will be going door to door in the capital this Sunday, 30 October, canvassing for eligible voters to register on the electoral roll or update the details of voters already registered but who have moved or need to update information. Voters are encouraged to have copies of supporting documents on hand to be ready for the officials to speed up the process.

Deputy Supervisor of Elections Sheena Glasgow said that in addition to registering voters in the capital, officials will also be revisiting homes in East End, North Side, Bodden Town and West Bay that were missed during the last round of canvassing.

1) their birth certificate, if born in the Cayman Islands; and

2) the birth certificate of one of their parents or grandparents who was born in the Islands; and

3) photo ID: either their passport or driver’s licence.

Caymanian Status holders will have to provide as supporting documents their

1) birth certificate,

2) Caymanian Status certificate and

3) either their passport or driver’s licence for photo ID.

“Also, persons already registered who have a name change to be processed will need to supply either a marriage certificate or a deed poll as supporting documentation,” Glasgow added.

I ill vote for the one who campaigns to have Politicians salarys reduced to about what I earn $4,000 pm, If they earn like us then they will understand what it costs to survive.

I sincerely hope that the silent, honest, decent majority in Cayman can offer up some alternative candidates to the den of vipers that have occupied the corridors of power for the last 40 years. Give me that dream to cling to and I will certainly register.

The great victory that Donald Trump is about to win over corrupt establishment politics should serve as an inspiration for us. It is time for a fresh start. The old lies and broken promises have become somewhat tiresome.

Obviously Trump is not a very good example of fairness and decency, but agree on draining the swamp. Even backbench MLAs are all too eager to jump the queues at the airport and milk every possible advantage of their perceived celebrity.

“Obviously”, my “obviously” differs from yours. Give the man a chance, you’ve already given the career politicians a chance and what have they done for you?

        I rest my case.

I was Caymanian but lost my status on my 18th birthday. Can I still vote?

    • Anonymous says:

Legally, no – but if they registered you when you were 17 they will probably not notice. You should apply for continuation.

OK. Now those useless peoplewho have Permanent Residence but refuse to pay the immigration fee need to PAY UP..or go back a yard. They WILL be named!
No employer, hospital or school should accept them or their kids until they present their RECEIPTS!

Will all those FAke Permanent Residence holders who have Not paid their fees be allowed to get status;vote . or will they be prosecuted for fraud, and deported: Who did not ensure they paid and why

Delinquent PR’s, to the extent that they exist, would never qualify to become Naturalised as BOTC while in arrears. This would happen, in theory, many years before they would have to requalify again on application for CI Status while grandfathered on WOL (equivalent of annual fee of last permit), and Immigration and various Boards do reconcile these payments at the initial application submission stage.

What does a born Caymanian who happens to have been born overseas for medical reasons have to produce?

  10. Anonymous says:

I was born in Cayman but my parents were not. I only have a Cayman passport. What documents should I produce?

What is the difference between a Caymanian and someone who has Caymanian status? I thought they were the same?

One eats the turtle stew; the other only eats turtle steak.

    • Anonymous says:

They are the same. The elections office may not understand that.

      • Anonymous says:

They are the same but the documents required differ, e.g. a Caymanian child born in the country to caymanian parents does not have a status certificate, they only have the relevant birth certificates.
Maybe going forward every baby that qualifies should get a status certificate!!!

I will thank you to respect my privacy and not knock on my door. I will vote when all the corrupt politicians are cleaned out, when driveways are not paved for votes, when governments stop using credit cards for personal spending and hide behind ‘there is no policy’ statements, when government is held accountable for massive overspending on ill designed schools, when governments stop passing stupid laws so they have titles for life etc etc. If I wanted to vote I would have registered and I don’t need an ‘official’ to try and convince me otherwise. There is nothing left to vote for.

Have faith my friend, have faith.
I have seen the indignant, decent Caymanians shaking off the slumber in the last two years or so.
You are going to see some fresh blood in the Assembly.
You can count on it. When this happens, I will vote for the first time in my life and I am more than 50.
      Go Trump!

If you do not vote then you can’t complain. You have the ability to help clean out the politicians you are complaining about and if you don’t vote then you haven’t helped make the change that you feel is needed. Especially in somewhere with so few voters it is important that everyone’s voice is heard.

It is as much a right to not vote, do not tell me I lose the right to voice a negative opinion if I don’t vote. It is my right to vote for who I think deserves it and right now there is not one candidate deserving of it.

Registration ends in December but candidates can declare in March so if you have a good candidate declare in March and you’re not registered…whoops.
