Minister to make case for lawyers’ law tonight

(CNS Business): Financial Services Minister Wayne Panton is hosting a public meeting Thursday night to argue that a bill to regulate the legal profession that he is hoping to steer through the Legislative Assembly protects Caymanian lawyers and addresses international compliance standards. Despite backing from the Cayman Islands Law Society and the Caymanian Bar Association, Panton has not won over the opposition benches in parliament and critics of the law say it does not go far enough to protect local lawyers.
