(CNS) UPDATED 4PM: Police have now said that the man who was shot and killed in George Town on Sunday night in the industrial area near Bronze Road is a 36-year-old Jamaican national. Officers haven’t identified the victim as his family in Jamaica have yet to be notified. The report of the shooting was made to the police at about 8:30pm, who learned the victim had been shot outside his home and taken to the hospital in a private car, where he was pronounced dead by the doctor.

Police have since stated that officers remained on scene today while completing forensic assessment and collection of evidence. Detectives are currently investigating the matter. It is believed that the murder was the result of a local dispute, and does not appear to be gang related. But as an added precaution the RCIPS said the community can expect to see increased police presence and patrols in the vicinity.

No arrests have yet been made, and investigators are encouraging witnesses to come forward and assist with the investigation

This is the third murder so far this year following the death of Rodney Anthony Rivers (59) from George Town in July after he was stabbed in the abdomen in Windsor Park, and Travis Alexander Ebanks (29) from West Bay was shot dead in January in King Road.

Anyone who witnessed this latest killing or has any information about the incident is asked to contact 911 or the George Town Police Station on 949 4222. Anonymous tips can be provided directly to the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777 or the website. Tips can also be submitted anonymously via the Cayman Crime Stoppers website.
