New road opens in congested GT area
(CNS): The National Roads Authority (NRA) has partially opened a new road connecting Outpost Street to the Bobby Thompson Way Roundabout in one of the capital’s main areas of congestion. The new road is designed to enhance traffic flow and alleviate the jams in the area by providing a more efficient route for drivers, especially those heading to the Fairbanks area.
Officials said that while the road is now accessible to the public, the project remains incomplete, with ongoing roadworks scheduled to continue.
“Drivers are strongly encouraged to exercise caution while travelling through the area. It is essential to adhere to the posted speed limits, pay close attention to traffic signage and remain vigilant for workers who may be present on or near the road,” the NRA said, as it thanked drivers for their cooperation and patience as this project continues.

NRA are the most useless department. No projects finished, no tendering of projects, no plans or accurate estimates provided….and then paying large sums of money to their cronies for access… Hope the AG looks into some of these projects.
I see they building a new parking lot for the pickleball happy hour crew now too.
When is the airport road going to be finished ? That seems to have died. Extend it to Barcadere and lets get going !!
One of DART’s NRA obligations…zzzz
Evidence?
Another bandade on an amputation solution.
What is the purpose of this road? Shortcut to nowhere kmt. Residence in the Windsor park/Templeton area can barely get out of their side roads with all the through traffic.
See 5:02pm below.
What you need to ask is who in the ministry of planning owns land that the road now touches
Let’s not beat around the bush here. Public record shows that the 6.5-acre parcel 14D105 is registered in part to a Mr. Tristan Hydes.
Google Earth imagery also suggests it may be the subject of some illegal clearing and most certainly, illegal dumping.
Yes this needs to be investigated….and he is a member of the NRA Board…
Legge say wha?
looks like another 80% finished road that will be worked on slowly for the next 18 months
More wasted money. Until you fix the GH roundabout, you are pissing into the wind.
Of course, it’s not finished.
NRA never finish anything
Diverting the traffic through a residential street where people already cut through Outpost Street to Anthony Drive, then to Walkers/Smith sounds like a recipe for disaster.
Roads to nowhere. Fast.
turtle-fast you mean…
💡the question of transport is a question of mathematics and geometry. these sciences do not care what your culture or climate is because these are objective indicators.
💡Braess’s paradox is the observation that adding one or more roads to a road network can slow down overall traffic flow through it. The paradox was first discovered by Arthur Pigou in 1920,and later named after the German mathematician Dietrich Braess in 1968.
👉🏻 the worse you create conditions for pedestrians and cyclists, the more you force people to get behind the wheel of a car and thereby provoke traffic jams
Exactly, let’s just pause there and ask Joey Hew where those bike corridors are that he had promised in 2015…for almost a decade the NRA have had the obligation to provide this cycle lane infrastructure in every road plan that has followed. You’d never know it.
nra…..inventing road projects to keep their workforce busy and to use up their yearly budget…
from the people who said more roads are not the answer….yep, you get more roads.
just another day in wonderland…..
The should continue to Walkers Road to have full impact. That fast the CIG didnt budget for continuing is absurd.
Straight through the remnants of the ironwood forest. Yee haw!🤠
That is the plan.
Can ya’ll not put a map on the article, most people know the roads by driving them not by name. Just a thought.
It’s the one by the bush church with the big tree.
It’s the very short road that accomplishes nothing, leads nowhere and stops at a very narrow residential street where you are surrounded by cars sitting up on blocks. Big win for the community !!
