Cyclist mugs another cyclist on George Town street
(CNS): Police are investigating a mugging in which one cyclist robbed another on South Church Street in George Town in the early hours of Thursday morning. A man was riding a bicycle along South Church Street in the vicinity of Thompson Drive about 12:30am yesterday when he was rammed by another male cyclist, which knocked him to the road, causing him minor injuries.
The two-wheeled mugger then stole the man’s blue backpack, which contained a mobile phone and other items, and cycled off from the location towards Seafarers Way.
The culprit was about 5’8″ tall with a dark brown complexion and a medium build. He was believed to have been wearing a red t-shirt at the time of the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to call George Town Police Station at 949-4222. Anonymous tips can be provided to the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777 or the website. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to caymancrimestoppers.com.

The time has come when we must accept our responsibilities as a nation and stop blaming other nationalities. These culprits are smarter than us. They used to blame-game as disguise and subsequently we will never solved our crime situation. If we continue down this path our beloved islands will continue down the slippery slope.
Not blaming other nationalities, we’re just blaming Jamaicans.
Ride softly, and carry a BIG stick. I won’t be riding in that or any other area late at night/early in the morning. However, when I do ride, I have a thumpy stick onboard.
We cannot blame the RCIPS — they can only respond to an alert. We have to be able to defend ourselves; that is a standard in any evolved, modern society.
I am glad to see that the RCIPS took another illegal gun off the streets. Well done. It all helps.
Was he riding with a cash register?
free solution:
police enforce rules regarding lights on bikes at night.
that will take all the scumbags on bikes off the streets straight away.
and it will improve road safety.
anyway…simple free solutions don’t seem to go far in this wonderland…..zzzzzzzzzzzz
The police can’t even ticket cars using or having working lights at night. Half an hour after sunset, that’s >50% of the vehicles on the road, including career professionals in omnibus/taxi PTU trades. These are rolling steel death machines. Whereas, cyclists without lights don’t present a danger to anyone but themselves.
Nothing good happens after midnight.

Its just a vicious cycle
No problem. The traffic cameras we paid for will identify who this is immediately. Our robust law enforcers will will take them out of action. Our robust judiciary will put them away and keep the people safe. Our intrepid agencies will ensure he is deported at the expense of his home country at conclusion of his sentence if he was not a born Caymanian – and our elected officials will ensure that if he is a foreigner, his home country pay the costs of his prosecution and incarceration (if they want the remittance flow to continue).
I sense a tiny bit of sarcasm…..
I understand and appreciate your sarcasm, but you had me until the last thought. Even with the sarcasm towards your elected officials, you are implying that a foreign country should pay costs???? This just does not flow with your previous ‘tongue-in-cheek’ statements.
Oh these are sad and desperate times, when your average mugger can’t even afford a Honda Fit and has to ride a bicycle.
Yup and killing people for $100 or so dollars. Can you imagine how dire the situation must be for such a small amount of money to mean life or death?
Jamacian
Your average Jamaican cyclist does not reach speeds more than 1-2mph (in the highest gear).
You can walk faster than that.
Not a Jamaican if they “cycled away”.
What a mess people getting rob by bicycle now Bump & rob cyclejackers!
“Cyclists” robbing “cyclists”
This area of GT is a no-go zone late at night unless there in a group. Women especially should be aware of their surroundings if alone.
Scum.
I also bet that at least one bike had no lights on. Like number plates on a car, or blown brake lights, a reason for police to stop someone that is rarely done.
