RCIPS warns owners of continuing car break-ins
(CNS): The police are seeing an increase in the number of reports of thefts from vehicles, either because they have been left insecure or because thieves smash vehicle windows and steal items left inside. Commonly stolen items include tools, jewellery, electronics and money. Chief Superintendent Brad Ebanks said such crimes were opportunistic, where unlocked vehicles provide easy access for “targeted and brazen thefts”. He said that “thieves scan car interiors, looking for items of value before smashing windows and taking items”.
Such thefts often occur overnight when vehicles are parked at the owner’s residence or at commercial premises. The RCIPS has already made a number of arrests and will continue to investigate incidents when reported.
Ebanks implored members of the public to take preventative measures to avoid becoming targets and stressed the importance of removing all items of value from vehicles at the end of the day, especially tools, jewellery, electronics and money.

My 10-year-old Kia has insecurity issues. Thieves must be able to sense that
Where is the governor?
!00% 7:20pm this guy is up and down every frigging night looking in cars in every frigging parking lot he must be invisible to police??? saw him walking last night by Royal Bank with Green bag with food container. I guess they want us to arrest him too next?
it is getting out of hand. they are breaking into vehicles even if they done see anything.
How about the RCIPS arresting the guy whose name rhymes with Shmad Schmodden who is caught on security cameras weekly breaking into cars and never seems to get locked up for it even when the videos are sent to the police.
Leave nothing of value in your cars, and leave the doors unlocked. Simple.
I wonder what your solution would be for home burglaries.
My solution for home burglaries is FAFO. I can’t guard my car all night, but step in the house and get what’s coming to you. You get it now?
calm down buddy, if 2 of those goons run up in your house with the thunder sticks, the only thing you will be doing is to comply.
I am always calm. I am responding to you and the previous one, both of whom made errant assumptions, and decided the best course of action was to slag me for it. Maybe now you understand the resolve of people who don’t have much, but have to choose the best course of action to preserve what little they have.
I will always protect my family. FAFO. My car, while expendable to an extent, cannot be protected, because there are bad actors out there who will bust the glass — which I can’t replace — if the car is locked. Oh yeah. Looks a bit different now, doesn’t it?
sounds like you’re working for them.
Sounds like you live in a gated community. Lucky you. Those of us out in the real world can’t afford window glass for our old cars, because they won’t pass it when registration comes up. Can’t find new glass, can’t drive your car. Get it now, Mr. Perfect?
