Arena McField, Planning Ministry’s Worker of the Year

(CNS): Arena McField, a supervisor in the Recreation, Parks and Cemeteries Unit (RPCU), has received the planning ministry’s Worker of the Year award. Beating more than 450 staff members for the workplace gong for outstanding public service, McField was said to play a “crucial role” in maintaining public areas for the benefit of residents and tourists alike. McField and her team are responsible for managing and maintaining beaches, town halls, cemeteries and other public facilities in the eastern districts.

“Arena’s dedication to RPCU reflects well on the ministry and on government as a whole. We are extremely thankful for her dedication and high standards,” said Kurt Tibbetts, the minister for Planning, Lands, Agriculture, Housing & Infrastructure (PLAHI).

RPCU Manager Mark Bothwell described McField as a perfectionist. “Her attention to detail is known to all who work with her,” he said. “In addition to outstanding performance, she regularly gives her time on weekends and after-hours, for no additional pay.”

Along with the accolade McField received a round trip ticket to any Cayman Airways destination within the region.

While McField came out on top, senior ministry officials said the process of choosing the annual winner was difficult because the overall standards were so high, so consolation prizes, including cash awards, were given to three other deserving workers.

One honourary mention award went to Land Registry Assistant Jackie Carter, who was described by Director Rupert Vasquez as having an “exemplary” work ethic and a willingness to embrace change. “In recent times, she has worked hard, alongside the Registrar of Lands, to modernise and update the Land Registry system. Mrs Carter always maintains a positive attitude, and never hesitates to undertake whatever assignment is presented,” he said.

Another awardee was Government Administration Building Manager Adam McLaren, who was said to be humble, always available, and the first person to step up to challenges, even when overwhelmed with work.

Isabella Hubbell-Butler, who “typifies what you want in a good employee”, according to the minister, was selected as the core ministry employee of the year. The Administrative secretary/personal assistant to the chief officer, Hubbell-Butler was recognised for her outstanding performance and commitment to excellence.

“Isabella is committed to excellence, and works tirelessly to meet deadlines, often sacrificing her personal time in the process,” said Chief Officer Alan Jones.
