Royal heir stars on cover of gay magazine

Cayman News Service(CNS): Prince William has made history by becoming the first ever British royal and heir to the throne to feature on the cover of a gay magazine. Prince William has been photographed for and given an interview to Attitude, a leading magazine in the UK gay community, in which he talked about the issue of homophobic bullying.

“No one should be bullied for their sexuality or any other reason,” the prince said in the interview, as he urged young people not to “put up with it” but to speak to a trusted adult and get the help they need.

Prince William, as the second in line to the throne, will one day be king, when he will take over as head of the Church of England and head of state in countries where gay people are discriminated against, including the Cayman Islands, but this did not stop him speaking out in support of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

Last month, the prince invited the magazine and members of the LGBT community to Kensington Palace to discuss bullying and its mental health repercussions, and heard their stories of suicide attempts, drug addiction and depression.

“No one should have to put up with the kind of hate that these young people have endured in their lives,” he said, and told the magazine, “The young gay, lesbian and transgender individuals I met through Attitude are truly brave to speak out and to give hope to people who are going through terrible bullying right now.”

The cover shot was taken by Australian-born photographer Leigh Keily and the magazine went to press before the shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando, where 49 people were killed and more than 50 injured.

I can’t believe news like this has reach the West Indies! Why are we even publishing this?! smh… I mean … who is Prince??? What have the royal family done for the people of the Cayman Islands??? They care for nobody’s interest but their own 🙂

Bullying is definitely a problem, especially to those who allow themselves to be bullied. The biggest bullies today include the proponents of the Gay lifestyle and community. If pressure groups would be more honest in their tactics they would be more convincing. It is the bullying aspect of their agenda which creates much of the hate. The world is increasingly accepting of the Gay lifestyle, even in countries that still have anti-Gay laws. There is a lot more change required, but the lobby groups do not help by being anti-religious instead of being pro-Gay. If the two cannot exist together, then pro-Gay cannot win. The very laws and changes that they seek guarantee their demise.

It is not a “lifestyle” it is who they are. I lifestyle is a choice like living like a gypsy or being a workaholic. Being gay is not a choice. That’s like saying being hetrosexual is a lifestyle, it’s not, it’s who we are.

So, the views of perhaps the least undemocratic and most irrelevant person, in the grand scheme of things, are supposed to mean more than another’s?

Considering the inhumane and murderous legacy as to how “Prince William” came into existence he (and his entire family) should be the last person to speak on anything regarding equality.

Lol, a “royal” sharing his views on equality – you couldn’t make this sh!t up!

Anyway, I actually like the dude and even his (half?) brother has come a long way, however I fail to see any merit in highlighting the views of the modern representative of an archaic and barbaric institution.

Actually, maybe we should hang on to literal translation of the bible and religious scripture since we’re insisting on honouring outdated traditions such as royalty?

Must be the Who…wonderful English the “least undemocratic” actually meaning the most democratic…also BS as the Royal family have no real power over the democracy in the UK, that’s up to the voters. More than can be said for the lodge influence here…

I hope this is the image chosen by the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority when it comes time to put him on the Cayman Dollar!

That does it. Time for independence!

  8. Sharkey says:

I can’t imagine how much money the magazine payed for that photo and interview, cause I know that he’s not gay by how fast he making them babies.

  9. Anonymous says:

But William, my imaginary friend in the sky insists I be hateful and rude to gays. Actually, the Bible says I should kill them. How do I get around that? Oh wait, I figured it put all by myself. I’ll just think independently, be fair to others, and stop believing nonsense. Yay, problem solved!

Blah. Not even funny. Dry. Just another dumb gay joke that has been used since the days of Sodom and Gomorrah. Hope you have that seem sense of humor when THAT BIG MAN calls you forward to testify.

I hope you have that “seem” sense of humour when he calls you up and says DUDE you misunderstood the whole point of my son’s visit! He came to spread love and you preferred fear and hatred!

HRH is clearly someone who is confident with his sexuality. That’s all it takes to not be homophobic. But I suspect that many homophobic posters here (and some of our MLAs) question their own sexuality and rather lash out at gays as a “smokescreen”, than accept them.

BTW, I’m a confident straight man who rejects prejudice of any kind.

I am Christian, not overtly practising but I get religion. For the comments about God punishing, I find offensive to the extreme. It engenders hate, as do many anti comments for any group, some emanating from the MLA’s who seem to protest too much.

I love Prince William. He stands up for what he believes in just like his mother Princess Diana did. A persons sexuality is not even an issue for him, I wish everyone had the same understanding and tolerance.

  15. educated ex pat says:

He is talking about bullying that’s it, he is not pushing anything on anyone. So is it right to bully someone because they have ginger hair what’s the difference and I am not gay.
Some people are so small minded and ignorant no wonder Cayman the highest income per capita in the Caribbean is so third world.

I believe it was William’s great-grandmother who once said: “500 years ago if you were a homosexual they stoned you to death. 100 years ago they put you in jail. 50 years ago you were shunned by society. 25 years ago it started to be accepted. Today they are being celebrated with parades. I don’t want to be around when it is mandatory!”

    • whatever says:

Mandatory? Really? Get a grip on yourself… Kinda strange that you seem to find far greater dangers in the few “Gays” around you, then in an intolerant Muslim religion that holds cattle in higher regard than women – and generally wants to take society back to the good old days where stoning was a regular hobby.

Camels dear chap, Camels. And quite rightly so. You can’t ride 18 days across a desert on a woman and no water, even with the best will in the world.

18 days? I am only looking for about 5 minutes tops.

Five minutes? I should be so lucky. My wife recently suggested I concentrate my mind on my grandmother to try and delay things. Still didn’t work!

I think you will find that God is looking at you now and wondering if you deserve to go to heaven. Watch what you say because even if God has a problem with Gay people, if they are good people in their hearts then they will not be punished. Remember that God sees and knows everything. At the moment you are being very judgemental and intolerable so you are not showing that you are good in your heart. I would beg for forgiveness if I were you and try to change your ways.

Will Santa punish them too? What about the Tooth Fairy? Easter Bunny?

Do his comments also apply to those folk who have deeply held spiritual convictions. Is it ok to bully them, eh, William?
    Double standards, hurrah!

    • Anonymous says:

So you are saying that folk with deeply held spiritual convictions should be allowed, by virtue of their religious beliefs, to bully gays then? Because that’s what you have just implied. Not bullying gays has absolutely no impact on your freedom to indulge in your spiritual convictions. It just means gays would be free to live their lives without the oppression of being bullied, that’s all. No harm to you.

      • Anonymous says:

No I am saying that people with deep religious convictions should not be bullied,………. like you just tried to do.
You did not ask, but I also think that Gays should not be bullied either.
What you said is not what I said and the only one implying anything is you!
Stop your ignorant hate preaching and bullying tactics please.

        • Anonymous says:

Thanks for the support. Nice job!

        • Anonymous says:

As long as your deeply held conviction doesn’t interfere with anyones deep gayness I could not give a damn. When you start your hate speech that’s the time you need bullying. You don’t see gays bullying the hetero community. So live and let live. Be happy. Give me a call if you want some really deep feelings….

        • Anonymous says:

The difference is that people are born gay, it’s not a choice.

People with deep religious convictions on the other hand are choosing to believe in something which has no supporting evidence. And this choice means they are supporting oppression of women, gay people, etc…

          Can you see the difference?

    • Anonymous says:

His Grandmother is the head of the church of England and he will be too when he becomes King. You can safely say that he too has deep spiritual convictions, but he is what Jesus wanted us to be which is tolerant and loving of thy neighbour. It’s you that has a problem and a massive chip on your shoulder, not him. He sees Gay people as people, you should learn from him.

Scholarship, NBF fund, Government overseas grant or just plainly taking advantage of the U.K. Passport?

With all these options open, I am surprised that there are not more employed than appears to be.

How many Caymanians even want a bartending job?!!! Caymanians want to be give a CEO or CFO job as soon as they leave nursery school as they think it is a God given right! They even needed a “school” course so that Caymanians could be qualified in “hospitality” before they would even consider such jobs. Sad sad place! In the end, the Government needs to educate the people and people need to have world class experience. They aint gonna be world class if they maintain the bigoted attitude that is held here on almost everything!

      Ignorant, rock hoping jerk!

First, HRH has plenty of educational qualifications, including a university degree, have you? As a highly experienced military SAR helicopter pilot and AirAmbulance pilot, I think his integrity, bravery and sense of duty, (to all of his people) is beyond reproach.

Secondly, the Union Flag flies over this speck of dust you call a country, it therefore makes it UK soveriegn territory, get it yet?

And finally, your obviously limited knowledge of a constitutional monarchy illustrates your total ignorance on the subject. A subject that if you were any where near educated you should be able to understand.

The civilised world is leaving you behind and it’s backwards thinking idiots like you that will just speed up the process.
